What to do with tons of Gold

My inventory is rapidly filling up with Gold since I made a gold mining base for a reason I can't remember, is there any good use for it besides selling for units? I already have over 1b units so I'm trying to think if there's any better use for it all before I just dump it into the economy.

It's required for your Capital ships base parts, one reason you need it.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of uses for gold- at least when you have tons- I am assuming more than one slot full. I would keep a slot and either discard or sell the balance. Somewhere around 1B is when I start discarding unless what I have was really fun to collect- and I want that reward feeling.

I'll just sell it all then. I have about 26 cargo inventory slots filled and I'm always gaining more

Once my stack of gold overflows I refine the surplus into pyrite to power my pulse drive. I don't mine either in this current save, but seem to accumulate more gold than pyrite.

You could make a silver mining base too. Than you can put silver and gold together in the refiner to make platinum, which can be refined to nanites. Allthough there are many ways to make nanites that are mayby even faster and easier ;-)

This would be my preferred method if the time/yield were not so bad. I wish they would go back and re-balance it because I enjoy building mining bases, especially when there is a game play reason for it. The activated metals nerf basically killed any game play reason for large scale mining.

There are a couple handy refiner recipe websites, which is great because there are so many permutations that you'd have to be some kind of savant to memorise them all.

I know of some dwarves who would love to have it. That said, it can be refined into Pyrite, a necessary component when planting Echinocactus, which is required twice in the production of fusion igniters.
