An update adds or improves content. An update will have a new game and a trailer.
A patch is a hot fix that corrects bugs but doesn't add or change anything. There are usually several patches after an update.
So to answer your question, no expedition.
Also, not every update comes with an expedition. Usually, it's every other update. The last update (Orbital) had no expedition. The one before it (Omega) did. So, I predict that the next update will have an expedition attached to it, but I could be wrong. As to when that will be: No one knows. Hello Games doesn't announce anything until release is imminent, and then Sean Murray posts an emoji on his Xitter account and the update usually releases a few days after that.
Yeah, by now they delivered plenty of stuff, even if there still is no automation, especially for Frigate Fuel, but they are closer to what the promised years ago.
Still they think if they give us stuff nobody asked for, like fancy space stations, we are happy.
But they neither give us what we want nor what we need, just random bs, and they are incapable of sharing patch notes - we do not matter in NMS and we will not matter to them in Light No Fire.
Like the rest of your post, this claim is easily proven to be completely wrong: https://www.nomanssky.com/news/
The following is complete guesswork, however that's not going to stop me so onward...
There are quite a few crash issues in the patch notes and while these could have been caused by anything it might have been like pulling a loose thread on a jumper: Loads of other stuff then unravelled. Also NMS was moved to a new engine recently so some of the fixes could also relate to that, requiring a bigger patch.
As is usual, the digital airwaves have fallen silent with the lack of announcements from HG re expeditions. In the vast expanse of this gaming universe, where HG are renowned for their loquacious and verbose utterances, this sudden dearth of dialogue is akin to a storm brewing on the horizon. I have noted the absence of these eagerly awaited pronouncements that usually fill our forum, and it leaves me with a sense of dread that this sacred place will be filled with demands of “when is the next expedition?” let us remain ever vigilant, eagerly awaiting the moment when the silence is broken and the floodgates of gaming news once again burst open, when Sean posts an emoji and lets the speculation begin. Until that time, we don’t barking know
Who told you that every time there's an Update, there's also an Expedition?
That's not how it works or ever worked.
They just released an update with the Orbital update, and that didn't have an Expedition.
We affirm your butthurt, and praise your outspoken derision of the evildoers.
