Ghosts in the Machine problem - very confused

There are dozens of discussions in this forum of various problems with the Ghosts in the Machine that I've checked out - a variation of a theme it seems - but I can't find one quite like what I have now, and confused on what might wrong or what might I be missing.

The immediate task is to visit a Vy'keen Multi-Tool *technology* merchant, however the game is guiding me (with the red mission target icon) to a Korvax space station with a Korvax Multi-Tool *upgrade* merchant. I must assume "upgrade" and "technology" merchants are the same?

The only option available from the merchant is buying an (expensive) expansion slot (and the "Upgrade Class" but for the lack of nanites). The option "Install Slot (Multi-Tool)" is not enabled. Is this what I am supposed to obtain? I recall that I had already acquired it (but forget from whom) and used it for the free slot from this very merchant. Or is there something else I'm suppose to do?

I've tried closing and reopening the game, warping away and then back, etc. to no avail. The one thing I have not tried yet is warping "out of range" so as to be able to reset the mission.

You are probably at the point where you need to hire a Vy'keen tech for your base. Be aware that the game will switch the active mission on you on a dime. Make sure you have the mission you want as active.

You do need to go to a Vy'keen system to get the Tech.

Not sure why you are confusing any of this with the MT merchant. The story never leads you to any of them. You always get sent to an NPC that is just walking around in the station.

It sounds as though you're at the Multi-tool Upgrade Terminal. You need to speak with the merchant and buy a module from him, not the terminal. The merchant's wares should fit your budget, too (about 60 nanites).

That's just it. When I make the mission to go to the Vy'keen merchant active, the red target guide comes up selecting a Korvax MT merchant on board a Korvax space station. I'm near the point where I need to hire the Vy'keen for my base so I'll see when I get there. Note tho that is part of the "Expanding the Base" arc, separate from the "Ghosts of the Machine".

Mine only said Use Nanites to buy tec.. but it does not say which one i need :P

You need to have the mission highlighted in your log and they will give you a free upgrade.

Only option is to purchase slot. Perhaps I need to obtain multi-tool expansion, but that was already done. Maybe I need to obtaion another, but I forget where I got it.

You've locked onto the multi-tool upgrade station, not the vendor. Try moving back a bit and turning away from the vendor - it's become a bit tricky since the update as the upgrade station seems to grab you, preventing you from locking onto the vendor, but it is possible to speak to him if you keep trying.

I am actually having this exact issue right now with the new space station layout. I cannot get this vendor at this space station (or the other across the way) to show the option to interact at all. As soon as I get close enough, the multi-tool upgrade column option becomes the focused object. I was able to do this earlier before it was required for the Ghosts in the Machine quest. I also reloaded the game completely but no difference.

Update..... I have to turn my camera completely around and face away for the option to interact to appear, and then I can talk to him. It's really tight in that space near the multi-tool column.

Oh good grief! That was the problem. Thank you thank you.

Strange still the mission calling for meeting with a Vy'keen merchant when it worked with a Korvax merchant. It made the issue more confusing. Oh well, I'm glad I can now finally move on.

I got it to work by backing away a bit and facing the merchant slightly to his right.

I don't remember it ever specifying a Vy'keen merchant before and it's no wonder you were confused. Hopefully they'll fix that along with making it easier to select the merchant soon.

Glad you managed to talk to them in the end :)
