If you think it's too good, don't pick it up... At least that seem to be the general consensus among the community.
I don't know of any mod that nerfs it, though that would be pretty easy to do. Just a change to the recipe that converts it to nanites is all it would take.
If you play on the highest difficulty settings, it's not quite as OP. Not because you get less nanites, but with smaller stack sizes and slower refiners, it is just incredibly tedious to do. I rarely harvest the runaway mould for that reason alone.
If you're planning on using mods, don't bother with a mod manager for NMS, because it uses PAK files, and if you want to use a number of mods, there's a good chance that each Mod PAK edits the same files
You're better off learning how to use AMUMSS and compiling your own mods, by downloading the LUA files for them, that way you can check what files each mod edits, and merge them with AMUMSS.
Super easy to install too, assuming you use very few mods and don't have to learn to use AMUMSS to compile a combined mod in order to prevent conflicts.
This game just isn't interested in being anyone's keeper n that makes folks crazy. They want the game to put up all these limits, make all these rulez, force them to not use cheats. It's really kind of comical and sad all at the same time. Currently there are at least three other threads where folks are angry and can't take it any more, having to have will power and self control is just too much.
If so, that means 90% of the community has never played an RPG or MMO lol
Means, NOOBS!
By my side, if I find a run away mold spot, most of the times, I put down a base right next to it. But I agree, it is a bit overpowered. Every next reset u login, it is back there.
Lots of people set up a base with refiners near a mold deposit they find, because the deposits regenerate after a time, so you can repeatedly come back and get more nanites. In my opinion, they're more trouble than they're worth because I play with small stack sizes and I limit inventory slots, and there are better ways to get nanites when you play with smaller stack sizes and/or smaller inventories. So, I ignore curious deposits entirely. But, some people do the farm thing, and it is, as you said, lucrative and fairly easy to do if you play with the standard 9,999 stack size.
In the end, it's a sandbox game, and there are many different ways to do just about anything. So sure, you could set up a bunch of mold farms and turn yourself into a god pretty quickly in the game, if that's what you want to do. I think most find that they become bored if they do that, though. So basically, you nerf them yourself. :) Or you don't. It's up to you.
The mod is called 'auto scanner plus' and it's one of the best mods ever.
