Lightning storms
I´ve been looking for an extreme weather planet with storms accompanied by lightning and (if any) tornadoes. Been checking a handful of reported locations from several years ago as well as relatively recent ones. Yet all of them had ♥♥♥♥ all instead of lightning or tornadoes (as opposed to what was advertised). Just regular extreme weather. Where lightning bro?

I suppose that planets have changed over time as the developers push updates, and so have the weather conditions. I really enjoy extreme planets, my current base is located on a mega exotic world with boiling steam storms that reduce visibility pretty much to nil. Ideally, I want to find something similar but with lightning, an uninhabited hot boiling og frozen world, but given how rare it seems to be from my experience I´d visit any such world just to check it out. I remember frequently seeing lightning in this game several years ago, however, now it seems to be non-existenct or perhaps just extremely rare.

If anyone knows such location, I would greatly appreciate the coordinates!

This is a toxic planet without lightning but there were plenty or Tornadoes during the Expedition. It's in EUCLID

Going for extra credit... no tornadoes but seems there was at least one lightning storm

CRAP! - Sorry - I fixed it :(

Difficulty level can have an effect on weather more than it used to. A while back they merged normal, creative and survival into one server so you end up with players getting different weather based on their settings. That's probably why those reported systems are different for you.

I play on normal but also tried switching difficulty to check if there was any difference but to no avail. The weather on my home planet remains the same also, regardless of difficulty, with boiling storms kicking in every few minutes.

I´ve just sat through 3 extreme storms on the first planet - no signs of tornadoes. Couldn´t quite tell which the other planet was. Tried fiddling with difficulty once again as per Grimmslayer, setting it to "Survival" and restarting - nothing changed.

I highly doubt they would restrict lightning to a difficulty setting. Come to think of it, I now remember seeing lightning on my home planet as well - a spectacular sight, granted that was sometime a few years back. As well as rummaging for storm crystals on other planets during extreme storm events. Now, I might just see the glowing storm crystals but no lightning.

At this point, I would really like to see as much as a glimpse of lightning in this game. Or if anyone could confirm what the situation is for certain.

This is the only place I have ever seen a lightning storm. No idea about tornadoes - those I have seen elsewhere but don't remember lightning. I had to go back and take a new photo to get the coordinates. Lightning is from sometime in January took me totally by surprise when it struck my while building this base. (In Euclid)

Sorry - that sux... this could indeed be an issue that the planet/system is not quite the same as during the Expedition... I guarantee you there were storms w/tornadoes. I have a screenshot of another player dying to fall damage (after getting dropped) and when my wife and I played together, she got stuck in one and died from fall damage.

I don´t doubt it. It is strange that people were able to experience lightning just a mere couple of months ago, but now it seems all gone. At least on my end (whatever that could possibly mean). I see rainbows on the regular though.

Checked the location - nothing so far, otherwise the place looks exactly the same.

Oh it is 100% confirmed that the systems and environment DURING an expedition is controlled by the JSON data file. I've noticed some where they (the expedition) specifically RESTRICT Sentinels.. so then once the Expedition is over... that ole awesome blue/green planet is now full of aggressive sentinels (cought... exp 12... cough)

--------------
Regarding that toxic planet I provided... it still has storms but it would seem no more tornado's...
----------

In my future adventuring, if/when I find a nice lightning or tornado planet... I'll be sure to post it. :nmsatlas:

You'll have much better luck going to a harsh galaxy. I think Calypso is the first one you'll come to from Euclid.

I build most of my bases on extremely harsh worlds, but mostly in other galaxies. I don't know if I have any like that in Euclid.

Ah @Faceplant8 - a most excellent suggestion!!

I'm only guessing here but maybe changing modes isn't enough to refresh the weather data once you have been there. The game might be using the same data from before you changed modes. If you were to visit the planet on a fresh save with higher difficultly settings it may be different. I personally have seen different weather between modes. A paradise planet with no weather on a normal save was a stormy tropical planet on survival. Again, I'm just guessing so take it for what it's worth....

I just went to several of my bases, some of which I'm sure had lightning in the past, and none of them have it now. I wonder if they remove it, or it's been disabled somehow.

Try extreme marsh worlds. Although much is rng, most of the tornados I found were on marsh worlds.
