New Ship Building: A blessing and a curse
Not gonna lie, the new ship building is awesome and needed to be in the game. Having the ability to customize your ship to your liking is perfect.

But.

At the same time, it totally ruins our feelings of accomplishment and "wowness" of when you actually had to spend loads of time to find cool ship sets.. You would land at the global hub and see that one ship in a color and set that youve just never seen before, and youd be DROOLING. And then that would spark your desire to find one just like it but you couldnt that easily. It took time and luck. The chance that rng could roll out a 1 in a 100 ship set that blew all other peoples ships out of the water. One of the best aspects of this game was knowing that you couldn't easily just get any ship.

With the new ship customization, you now can.. idk how I feel about this. I love and hate it at the same time.

Well it ain't that easy as you say it, i just spent over 10 hours trying to find the cockpit for my fighter and the wing set. Also you have to remember that when you find the ship with the said parts, you need to find another ship with another parts.

So after all these years, i'm able to get the small fighter what i have been looking for hundreds of hours with the RIGHT COLORS!

The paint is everything, you can't even think of how long i have been searching that ship and it's like 1 in a million change to find it as pink and blue.

1. First of all you should probably remember you speak only for yourself. "Our" experience does not exist.
2. Frankly am not interested in doing any ship building as it is set up as those ships are not interesting to me. I like the hunt even if it is on Reddit sometimes. I am only interested in coloring a ship I already have but so far that's a no go. Oh well.
3. Have you looked into the steps in putting together a new ship? It's going to take some time, lots of time, as it should. The implementation is probably about right, don't gut the game to bring in new options.
4. We all by now should know that no matter what new gift we get from HG, it isn't going to be all that we want. It's a given, but it's also free which is not to be overlooked.
5. This may well be the start of much more. Who's to know what they will come up with.

If you have real suggestions to better the game, send them to HG. This is just player feedback forum. Lots of options people have asked for have been implemented into the game. If you have something worthwhile and can ask in a cogent respectful manner, they might happen too. Gotta have hope.

Many people feel the same way so yeah, it IS our experience.
And nothing is free, don't be naive. We were advertised FULL release and basically got early access. EVERYONE PAID for all this, dont act as if this is all goodwill and free.

Not really, mainly because you can only make a ship of 3 out of the 7 ship types in the game....

If anything it's a way to make the OG ship types in the game more attractive, because they look quite dated by now.

I mean, the solution to that could be to allow blue prints to be found in ancient civilizations, buy them from market, ect...

Many people feel the same way so yeah, it IS our experience.

"Many people" isn't everyone, so it's the experience of those "many people," sure, but that's not a collective "our" because this is a sandbox game, and there are many ways to play it. You don't speak for me.

To the original point: I think the ship-building is neither a blessing nor a curse. I think it's a compromise. It's set up, I think deliberately, in such a way that it doesn't completely invalidate ship-hunting. Because there's the camp who really wants ship-building and the camp that really doesn't want it because they feel it will "destroy" ship-hunting. (Which it really wouldn't, anyway, because you can just....not build a ship, if you prefer to hunt for the perfect already-constructed one. Because the game is a sandbox. But whatever. "Fanboys gonna whine" is perhaps the one true constant of the universe. Or at least of this planet.) So we get a system where you can only build, at least for now, what are probably the least-popular ship types, and you still have to hunt to do so. And of course if you want a sentinel ship, which I'm guessing is the most popular type, or a solar ship, you still have to look for one, at least for now. It's a classic compromise where no one gets what they really want, but there's a nod to "both sides."

(For the record: I don't care about ship-building or customization, I never buy ships, AND I don't specifically ship-hunt, either, other than prioritizing finding a pirate system early in the save so that I have a better chance of finding a crashed solar ship, which is what I fly more or less exclusively once I have one. So, I like to think I can be pretty objective about this issue.)

And nothing is free, don't be naive. We were advertised FULL release and basically got early access. EVERYONE PAID for all this, dont act as if this is all goodwill and free.

It's been eight years. Don't you think it's time to let this go? If you don't want to see the improvements and additions to the game as "free," then think of it as finally delivering on the hype or whatever.

the buiolder is limited, it doesn't break ship hunting at all and if anything makes the sentinel and other rare ships more cool to find. also limitign the paint options means the more exotic ship paint combos are a cool find. can we just enjoy the good for once without always deriding every effort they makes for once

I think it was a blessing. Like many, I am not all hot on it per se. But I did tinker with it just so I understood it. All that matters, functionally, is where you build it ... should the player desire a certain configuration of SC slots.

I say "blessing" because it was more and does give players more to do. As a vet I feel like it was more for another ... but I also never wanted a terminal to trivialize peoples past searches {especially those that did it on their own}.

For me the test was easy as I recalled a pretty cool looking fighter in the starter system of the Omega Expedition. I forget off the top of my head the exact spelling ... but the system we start in. Mainly as it was the most recent memory of where I saw the wings {the Darth Vader's TIE look-ish}. Anyhow bought a C and a B*** ... had grabbed the engines the other day from another ship {but the one in the starter system had all I wanted for the look} I saw in an Outlaw system.

***Funny how we always see Cs when looking for the S ... I kept seeing As and Bs lol ... so settled on a B. My char can afford it, but I still try and be economical lol. Though to be fair that system is triple star so ... .

Anyhow was a smooth process that I am glad I tinkered with else I would not have seen the patterns. Like how no matter what I did the ship came out the same ... telling me it was tied to the System I was building it in. Either way I just made it there in the starter system and the SC slots were decently placed ... likely a decent weapon with 1 SC for shields as it may be just too far ... still not bad. As I have never done anything but find my own ships ... the built one had better SC placement than most I see randomly lol {still never found a perfect square or line}.

Like many though I am happy with what I already have on my respective files. This new system is great for new players especially {in my opinion} as they can make a nice ship faster than searching on their own. Though hard to compete with Interceptors these days, but it is something.

I think it is a nice start ... and I can understand why it was limited to the 3 it was {for now}. I cannot say I was hoping to paint an existing ship as I literally hunted down the specific look it had. I would feel guilty probably. Though some toss-a-way I just nab because I think red would look good instead of yellow ... I get it.

I have not hunted a "classic ship" since before SC were a thing ... but now I never have to thanks to this new system. Also finding the parts on your own should be easy.

I may not use the feature much or feel it was not intended for me, but I am grateful for it.

Please stop. Nowhere was it advertised, ever, that we could build our own ships, or even recolor our ships BEFORE launch day. So you think that every single time they add something to the game, you are "owed" that update because we paid $60 8 years ago?! I can't imagine how incensed you are over in the Fallout 76 forums... you must have to speak to a therapist about that one. ffs really?

Calling it for what it was and is. NMS was advertised as a full game and it simply wasn't at launch. Big majority of the community agrees, stop with the bs.
gNg Mar 30, 2024 @ 2:17pm
Big majority? How many people have you asked?

I disagree btw.
Aurumworks Mar 30, 2024 @ 2:22pm
Doesn't matter how many people agree to an opinion one always only speaks for themselves unless one is an elected representative of all those people with that opinion.
Foxglovez Mar 30, 2024 @ 2:26pm
LOL Probably still mad at that kid in third grade that accidently tripped him on the playground. Should rename to Holdsamadgrudgeforever. Sad really
Xenomorph Mar 30, 2024 @ 2:49pm
Veterans will have no use for this.
This is a new player feature, mostly, but it does feel incomplete. Just because shuttles are not included, no recolor and no modify. The other ship types are ok to be left out, i think.
