Hello Everyone,

First of all, thanks so much to everyone who has already spent time playing No Man's Sky and letting us know about any issues you've experienced.

Steam users are able to opt-in to the Experimental Branch, where we have pushed a patch to address some problems. We'll be rolling out these fixes to other platforms as soon as possible.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Enter "3xperimental" in the textbox and press "CHECK CODE", then select it from the dropdown menu.

The patch notes are as follows:

Experimental Branch 04/04
  • Added a set of fighter-class wings that were missing from the Starship Fabricator options.
  • Fixed a number of minor visual issues with the mode select menu.
  • Increased the charge duration and efficiency of the Minotaur Bore.
  • Added a distinct icon for fleet expeditions on the galaxy map.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause inventory slots to highlight with a flash as usable for crafting when they were in an inaccessible inventory.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some new space station base parts to clip off the edge of the screen at the Construction Research Terminal.
  • Fixed an issue that made some interactions in the space station difficult to trigger in VR.
  • Fixed an issue with the Starship Fabricator that could incorrectly bring up a warning about not having enough ship components to finalise a design after the design had already been locked in.
  • The mannequins around the space station Exosuit Technology Merchant's kiosk are now procedurally generated.
  • Fixed a number of minor visual issues in space stations.
  • Added a sign to indicate the location of the teleporter within the space station.
  • Fixed a minor visual issue with the shadow casting of some specific starship engines.
  • Fixed an issue that could occasionally render Geks as too tall when using the Starship Communicator.
  • Improved the visual responsiveness of interactable items on the space station.
  • Fixed a number of visual issues with the neck join on Autophage heads.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the names and appearances of some buildable holographic signs to be out of sync.
  • Fixed an issue that made it difficult to delete the Hydraulic Arms base part.
  • Fixed a number of collision issues on the space station.
  • Improved the pad selection when teleporting to a space station.
  • Fixed a rare issue with very large starships that could cause them not to attach correctly to landing pads.
  • Fix an issue that prevented the 'previous expedition' label from showing on the main menu saves made in old expeditions.
  • Fixed an exposed variable in some frigate maintenance hints.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Space Anomaly missions from advancing correctly with progress along the Artemis Path.
  • Fixed a rare blocker in the Space Anomaly mission chain that could occur when upgrading from very old saves.
  • Fixed a number of mission flow issues with fleet expedition events.
  • Fixed a number of text issues related to fleet expeditions.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a hologram to appear in the starship cockpit when activating the Economy Scanner from the Quick Menu.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the trade surge timer to reset when warping.
  • Fixed a number of UI issues in the Starship Fabricator, particularly in ultrawide resolutions.
  • Fixed a crash related to refiners.
  • Fixed a crash related to player movement.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur if unusual frigates were chosen as the leader of a fleet expedition.
  • Fixed a rare crash related to creature navigation.
  • Added a significant memory optimisation for Xbox platforms.

Experimental Branch 01/04
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the ship communicator hologram to display the incorrect lifeform when communicating with a frigate commander.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause some non-Gek frigates to address the player as "Captain-Friend".
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the Fleet Command Station to fabricate a captain name for organic frigates.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent frigate commander holograms from appearing when a fleet sought the player's assistance via a Fleet Command Station.
  • Fixed an interface overlap when using the Starship Fabricator in ultrawide aspect ratios.
  • Improved the visual effects on civilian ship weaponry when they warp in to assist in space combat against pirates.
  • Fixed a number of issues that could cause frigate expedition intervention missions involving translation to interact with each other, if more than one translation mission was active simultaneously.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause asteroid fields near the player's capital ship to flicker.
  • Organic frigates on expeditions will no longer attempt to contact the player with reports about their non-existent crew.
  • Fixed an issue that caused frigates on expeditions to try to call the player for help while the game wasn't running.
  • Various text fixes.
  • Frigate commanders now delegate freighter liaison duties to the first lieutenant.
  • Added a number of new dialogue possibilities to a frigate expedition intervention event involving irresistible-smelling fruit.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented portal addresses from being displayed in the Wonders catalogue in French.
  • Optimised the loading of freighter bases to prevent an issue where the base would disappear and reappear when first loading into the game.
  • Added a number of new alien words to learn and translate.
  • Added a number of new alien-language messages to translate for frigate expedition intervention missions.
  • Fixed a crash related to terrain editing.
  • Fixed a crash caused by Sentinel-owned ships getting added to the player's collection.

Experimental Branch 29/03
  • Fixed a hang on PC.

As always, thank you to all players who use Experimental and take the time to report any issues you encounter.

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here on PC: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\ and here on mac: ~/Library/Application Support/HelloGames/NMS/

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behaviour.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

trying to change the Freighter's engine color in the Freighter Bridge terminal, results in NMS going into an endless loop... the only options are to wait until it closes on its own or to manually terminate NMS in some way...

Ok I just built my first custom ship and this is more a qol request / suggestion for the ship builder. can you make the camera pan up to get a top view at least ? (not worried about the bottom view and clipping the station floor). And to have a camera speed adjustment slider in the options for the ship builder ? the builder camera speed is a lot faster the
rest of them.

Please add the Exotic and Sentinel ships to the ship builder. They are simply better.
I understand the 'hunting for the ship' aspect and all but c'mon...
Additionally, I propose the same mechanics for the Atlantid Multitools - the multitool builder. It'd be awesome to have personalized look for those incredible lookink MTs.

In regards to the GPU leakage / performance fix:

I played for about 18hrs almost straight yesterday. (my irl job is in 12hr shifts so i work 15 days a month and off 15 days so it's normal for me to have extended play sessions)

i had just 1 instance where the leak started and the fps dropped for about 30sec then recovered itself. Prior to the Orbital update that issue used to happen sometimes 4 - 8 times in a session like that plus the only thing i could do to recover from that would be to close out of the game and restart. Big W on the performance for me with a GTX 2080S on 2k resolution (2560x1440).

Ship building is complete garbage. Why am I only able to salvage only 1 part from the ship. Also not able to salvage any parts from some some ships. upgrading ships you have to keep going into the menu bc u keep getting kicked out of it after each upgrade. It does the same thing on multi tool ECT.. stay in the menu till the person is done or when buying other upgrades in the anomaly it does the same thing. It's also lame I can't mix and match from class of ships.. hey maybe I like the wings from my fighter on my hauler or or the engines from my explorer on my fighter. The ship building now is all still cookie cutter no real customization.
