As you move toward the best reputation, it really becomes OP for what you can pick up. I have enough hyperdrive fuel to last a couple of years without crafting. On the plus side, it is nice to have an easy way to pick up salvaged frigate modules.
The game or the save game editor will allow you to gain things rapidly. You are expected to decide what seems fair and balanced for you.
I was also doing the Guild missions and hit a Gek planet. I needed about 12 Gek missions to finish it. Every planet, including the mission one either had freighter storage or freighter upgrades. I'm used to the old 'Grind' way, I also wasn't going to pass on the easy route. I spent about an hour with the transporter and got what would normally take a long time, with regards to freighter upgrades.
Still can't find an S Class in the new freighters. Is there one? (I have A Class) It doesn't really matter, just curious.
Another annoying point that happened earlier in the week. I was earning the Walker award. I was one off, game crashed. On the restart I was back to needing 15. Nothing else in the game was lost. As a caution, I save and exit NMS on some of the harder challenges. None lost doing it that way.
All Guild rewards are more broken as they are "refreshed" when you teleport to another station, which will happen eventually for you. (traveling to another system)

This is the first "flat top" captial ship I have ever owned. (4500 hours) I never grind for freighters, just take what comes up as I do things. The advantages are not really worth it to me to do mind numbing stuff to get one.
@nano, it never occurred to be that this was buggy, but I can see how it could be now after reading post and replies. I love the donate button and IF the the mechanic is bugged, then I am guilty of the higher perk ability to donate to decrease the amount of mission to grind.
I thinking it's as balanced as one chooses it to be. And Geldric is also correct.
You can buy every single mod: ship, exocraft, suit, multi-tool at the kiosk (at your guild/race % discount) and sell them back and make bank. Geldric hosted a thread on the teleporting to Pirate systems and using creds to purchase the "suspicious XYZ", and warping to another Pirate system.. it's like a trade route. Couple million to start and an hour and you can bank 100k+ nanites.
He puts on paper what we see in game and wonder if, "Is this legit, damn I am a pirate, or dang I'm special to the Trade Guild", just stop stressing on the mechanics and try to enjoy YOUR find.
Your perception is the reality in life as well as in NMS. Enjoy it while it lasts.
That solves it. Just as handled like the trade specific items per system's affinity.
I'll gladly accept my free 'jester' token now.
Very much this. I suspect it is so lucrative that they will place some type of limit on it in the future. Like only one a day or some such.
Meanwhile, it's how the game works. Make use of it or not as you feel ok with.
Getting resources in this game is never an issue if you know how to actually do it. You can farm it manually, automatically, buy it, steal it, ask for it, duplicate it etc. It's the beauty of the game. I needed about 3h of playtime to get my first 150 mil and I wasn't even using the most lucrative of ways not to mention combining some together. I traded to 150 mil in about 3h. Traded, as in was flying from one system to another and buying-selling resources.
The game isn't difficult in terms of getting resources and it wasn't for a long time now. So free resources shouldn't concern you as I said before. Focus on the story and having fun instead of reloading saves and farming resources, which is still technically an exploit as any other glitch with duplication.
