Only one customization module from scrapping a ship and other thoughts
Anyone else feel like it would be better off to get all the modules from scrapping the ship? Wings, cockpit and engine.

Thoughts on being unable to craft sentinel and solar ships?

Any idea why the owned ship limit can't be similar to the pet register? I thought we could be able to "disassemble" ships and keep them in cold storage with this update.

Have previously introduced features been expanded upon in the past or have they been left unfinished?

I'm not here to complain, I'm just a newbie asking questions.

Many people have complained about only getting one ship piece from scrapping a ship, and about not being able to customize ships that you don't build from parts, and about only being able to craft a few ships types. So you're not alone in that. While I obviously can't really know, I would imagine that HG will add other ship types to the fabricator, though my feeling is that they won't ever add sentinel ships. But, I could be wrong about all of that. If you must have the ability to fabricate other ships, there are already mods that allow you to make shuttles, solar ships, and exotics, last I looked on NexusMods. I imagine those mods will easily break when/if HG chooses to fiddle with the feature, however, and I don't know if they're made/maintained by people who are on the ball about updating.

If I remember correctly, the number of ships a player can have has been increased in the past, so perhaps they will again. Or maybe they won't. Fewer "slots" means you have to be choosy about what you build/keep, and maybe HG wants to keep that aspect.

As for revisiting existing features vs. just adding new ones: Honestly, HG leans more toward the latter. They heavily tend toward adding new features to attract new players (because that's the only way they make money off the game, since they don't sell DLC) rather than revisiting/expanding what's already there. But, sometimes they do tweak things. For instance, the latest update tweaked the standing system and actually made it a little more meaningful. As for ship-building specifically: Again, I obviously can't know, but my feeling is that they will expand it as they get feedback from players and work out bugs. As I said, I think they will add other ship types to the fabricator, for instance.

Have you ever wondered why in a lot of games, you kill a dragon and it only gives you one bone, or a piece of meat, when you clearly should have the full skeleton and 100 tons of meat?
Gameplay reason.

Understandable. I suppose my biggest gripe is not being able to just shove ships into "cold storage", make them unusable and thus remove them from the max ship limit. There's so many cool, unique ships.

You can shove ships into cold storage, also mutli-tools, frigates, freighters and bases too.... using the save editor and the archive feature.
Though it doesnt work with custom build starship for now...

To be clear, with the Nomnom save editor, right? It's been a while since I've used it.

np.

Been playing since 2018 and the starship limit was way lower back then... I 've encountered lots of cool looking ones so instead of simply getting ride of old starships, I usually archive them (I dont turn off the game to do so, I just alt-tab then open the editor) before scraping them to make room for the new ones (nowaday we can even save the upgrades and tech before scraping).
I do the same with multi-tools. It's just more tricky with staves since the model isnt stored into the seed, it requires to save datas of the customization in the Json editor.
Same for freigthers.

1. One part per ship scrapping is actually a reasonable compromise. If you received all three parts then you cold buy a class c ship and rebuild it as an S class in what ever color yo want, and go station hopping until you get a slot load out you like. Having to buy three ships at least requires a little more cost and effort.

2. There file in game for shuttles and solar ships. Why they currently are not include is a mystery, but they will add then soon (I think they should), maybe they cut them for some unknown reason.
(
edit)
I do not think they should add Interceptors, Exotics, or Living Ships. Those should be considered alien technology and not compatible with the ship fabricator. I would like the ability to recolor existing ships, that think that is needed more than the fabrication.
(end edit)

3. As other have mentioned the ship limit has already been increase. I would like some in game function to put a ship in "cold storage". Maybe export the ship to an archive and allow you to latter rebuild it at a cost. This could be cross save.

4. this will sometimes make small changes and improvements to a system, they rarely do a full overhaul to a game system. They seem to like to "check off a box" and move on.
