Furthest distance you can jump?
What is it? The furthest distance I've jumped has been about 1020ly.
What is the absolute maximum distance you can jump? And what upgrades do I need? Does the class of the ship matter? Mine is A class so one away from the top tier (S). I have quite a few black market upgrades.

Yes, the class of the ship can matter. It depends on the ship type.

Some ships have a jump range bonus, and that bonus is higher the higher the ship class. Other ships do not have a jump range bonus, so class wouldn't matter for those.

The ship type with the best bonus is the Explorer ship. That bonus is applied to all other upgrades, so to get the best possible jump range you would want an S-Class explorer.
Then you would want to install 3 black market (x) grade hyperdrive upgrades with the highest bonus possible (+320 ly each), plus all other craftable hyperdrive modules.

I honestly don't optimize my ships for jump range, so I don't recall what the maximum was on a fully upgraded S-class explorer, but it was something a bit above 3,000 ly.

A fully upgraded S-class freighter can reach something like 6,000 to 7,000 ly.

Explorers have longest warp range. Supercharged slots give you greater bonus than neighboring same tech type, and each warp drive gives you a bonus range. Don't know what it adds up to, but if 320ly is highest bonus, you can further increase your current range.

As jaggid indicated, freighters will easily out warp ships if you don't mind using it. Only disadvantage is that you can't enter a black hole. (I don't know if you can warp to new galaxy in freighter. I haven't tried. And, if you could, I don't know the effects on your freighter.)

I tested this around a year to a year and a half ago, and I was able to make the galaxy jump in my freighter. It had no effect on the freighter. But my active starship (and multi-tool & Exosuit) still suffered damage, exactly the same is if I had made the jump in a starship.

My sentinel ship goes about 170,000 LY per jump.

Recent updates to the game added sentinel ship types, with core hyperdrive stats that 'out of the box' can be huge.

Explorers have traditionally since the conception of the game always been the highest and Exotic ships can have pretty large hyperdrives too which are generally good all round ships.

Using the Living Ships with maxed tech, to travel great distances are fun too and they are not restricted by star colour.

Freighters jump insane distances with maxed out hyperdrives and are best for quickly travelling across galaxies, (buying and selling making millions) without leaving the freighter.

Doesn't matter, their drive itself has a high range, but the ship type doesn't have the bonus that explorers do. That bonus gets multiplied by the installed tech on an explorer, which makes the max range of a fully upgraded explorer higher than the interceptor.

The power of multiplication makes explorers still the king of ship types for jump range. Only the freighter can beat them. Even with all of the changes we've seen.

Brings up a good point. The OP presumably wasn't asking for the maximum if you mod and/or use the save editor though.

That's funny, I just tried that a week ago. It just occurred to me I had never tried it, so I did. It still works just fine and as you said it does still damage your primary ship and weapon though, just as if you had jumped while in your ship, and you still wake up on a planet looking for the ship anyway like normal.
I was kind of hoping that since we had the expedition where we woke up on a freighter... maybe that might happen! lol Ah well :)

Last I heard, the max "vanilla" warp range is for freighters and is about 6000 lys. Not sure on ships because they have added some new types but I believe it was about 2500 lys, maybe 3000 lys tops. Explorers have generally had the best warp range.

This implies you have S class ship/freighter and addons to support. It can be really touch and go to find the S class upgrades for a freighter. You can't just do somewhere and buy them.
