What difficulty do most play?
I started survival recently and it can get pretty hard at the start haha!

What do we all use as a difficulty?

I play on what I call Survival+, which is all difficulty settings at the highest, which is higher than survival difficulty for some of them. Except for stack sizes and scanning recharge, which I leave at the default setting for Survival.

And yes, at the very start, it is a bit of a challenge. Ground combat isn't really a big deal, but I generally avoid all space combat until I've had a chance to get some weapon upgrades installed. I also stock up on sodium before ever leaving the starting planet so that I have the resources needed for recharging my ship's shields before there's any risk of it.

Exactly that, Survival+ (w/No Tutorial)

permadeath, tutorial, max difficulty

I have a couple of different saves. one normal, one creative and one sort of mixed custom - some options harder and some easier, as I suck at fighting sentinels.

Survival+, default survival stack size (the most punishing size is ridiculously small)

i find it the most satisfying. You are rewarded for putting the effort to grind resources and upgrade your tech.

Pro tip for survival+ : to grind money on your first system, find salvaged data and sell it. Best method by far.

yeah, but "fortunately" all you have to do to skip combat is summon the anomaly or save and reload. Wish the game had some sort of danger in it.

That's against my own personal rules.

Fun.

Fun difficulty. (grinds are not fun and point to deep psychological problems if you think they are fun)

I play normal no changes with the tutorial mostly. If I die to a glitch I keep playing. If I die and it is my fault, (not easy on normal), I use all quicksilver and delete the save.

I have played with out the tutorial, did not enjoy it.
I have played survival and permadeath and did not enjoy it.

I play for my enjoyment and I enjoy the relaxed nature of normal. I also play the expeditions when they are active. If I want a challenge I will play something like stellaris or dyson sphere program.

I love survival games. I play on normal thinking it's the original experience intended. This game is easy as a survival game which works for a more casual play.
It is the most fun for me.

I love the custom mode. Some of my settings are permadeath, and a few are relaxed. But yeah, most are normal.

Everyhing on standard, difficulty of all fights scaled up.

Would never play such a glitchy, buggy and unbalanced game with any "hard survival" options. That just makes the boring grind elements even more boring.
I rather went for full "fun".

Also, just one single save. Didn't find any reason to start another one, since you can change everything anyway.

I would sure like to know where that quote came from and read the reason why? sounds like an opinion?, any chance you might reference that, most games are grindy and would suggest that gamers have some problems lol

Or you're just, you know, neurodivergent. LOL Which, no, is not a "deep psychological problem."

For me, I always do custom saves, with the tutorial disabled and all but a few of the difficulty sliders all the way to the right. (Yes, including stack sizes. Because I like inventory management and having a reason to occasionally stock up on resources.) But, I don't do permadeath because I'd become too cautious, and that would make the game un-fun to me. I turn off predators because I don't enjoy killing things. And I make base power free. I don't often build on-planet bases, preferring a mobile freighter base, but on the rare occasions that I do, I don't want to be bothered with all the stupid wires.

And sometimes, I use the PTSd mod on top of those settings, which makes for a really hard save, especially at the start. And I do "personal rules" to make things harder, too. Like, no summoning the Anomaly/my freighter to escape a space fight.
