Expanded space stations?
I would call them reconfigured space stations. They moved everything from the sides into the middle at the back. I liked the old layout because you had the plazas separated from the hangar. Now everything is in the hangar so it feels different. I guess it depends on what kind of aesthetic you prefer but I thought the space station interiors would have a radically different layout, not a variation of the old one. I do like that they put everything together though instead of having to cross the hangar back and forth to get to things.

I rather like the new stations. The outsides are excellent compared to the old stations. Been through a station interior redesign already so I was glad they kept it simple enough where we are not lost on where to go and how to do what we need.

Is the interior better? Not sure but still glad to see it change again. The initial exploration is frustrating but it only takes a couple of stations before you feel more and more comfortable with the new design.

Maybe just me, but I do wish they had short range teleporters out by the far landing pads. Feels like I am running/jetpacking a lot more but honestly it is a minor difference in time if any at all.

It's annoying because in most cases the station is already empty when you enter, yet the game forces you to land on the pads the farthest away.

We are the Griswolds! When the park closes we can be the first ones out.

Not just you. Definitely not just you. That was my first thought the very first time I landed in one.

I had the same thought in the anomaly. They added a teleporter to the anomaly and put it in a spot where it's pretty much useless unless you're brand new and don't have any jetpack upgrades. They should have put a few at the back of the hangar.

I think I liked the space station layout before this change. I liked having little areas to walk in and just hang out staring out the window. Away from all the noise of the rest of the station. Dimly lit, chill spot. Maybe it's just a roleplay kind of thing not much are into.

The running thing probably wouldn't be so annoying if they hadn't removed punch jump in stations and Atlas. But now it just irks me every time knowing it will place me at the furtherest port.
I was led to believe that each station, or at least each faction, were going to have different layouts that changed around. Of course they are just the old stations moved up the back and a few new chairs and stuff thrown about.
Good old HG, it wouldn't be the same if what they told you was exactly what happens.

This is where the Rocket Boots come in handy. They are dangerous in PD out in the field but easy enough to install when in stations. Clears the distance in short order.
Just don't forget to remove them... :steamfacepalm:

For years folks ♥♥♥♥♥ about old ss, so boring, exactly the same. HG finally rolls out big changes, folks ♥♥♥♥♥ about new ss, not really what we wanted, yadda yadda.
Humans hate change as much as they hate same old. Hard for HG to get in a win here.

I really like them. They look spectacular on the outside, and they've added of whole new level of realism and vibrance to the insides, making them seem more like actual, functioning trade-hubs.

For me, having to run a bit further, is a small price to pay for all the improvements

I like the stations but took a bit to find everything. And those NPC's sure can get to a different level pretty quickly while I'm trying to talk all of them up.

As for the long walk, yeah, boots.
After landing on the first new station and checking it out, I decided to take the long trek to the other end. Hadn't done that in LOOOOONG time because I don't think I ever made it there after a few minutes of running. I did finally reach it in the new station. Nice view. But leaping out is not a thing :steamdeadpan:

I’m with gNg - superior eye candy, esp at Ultra.

I’m now selecting sentinel exo upgrades with +sprint distance (or whatever it’s called)

I think the game is starting to suffer from a lack of design coherence now. The stations are beautiful and highly detailed both outside and inside, but the other game assets, like the old ships and freighters/frigates are quite plain with lots of low resolution textures and flat/lacking detail geometry. IMO they're constantly adding polygon count and details to things each update, which is making old assets pop out on how simple they were compared to the new shinning ultra detailed things.
I kinda preferred how it was before the update, because all had the same aesthetics/design.

But the layout of the npcs is a big QoL indeed. They're closer to each other, easier to interact and faster.

Well, they have a multitool case on either side now, guess that's an expansion of something.
cogvos Apr 4, 2024 @ 11:21am
I suspect they are not finished with the new stations yet. Those 'elevator' doors look out of place and, again a suspicion, are likely to be used for either - player owned expansion (otherwise what is the use of the station override whatsit?) or additional back rooms ala old stations. At present there is, I think, room for short range teles at the furthest pads so that may come in.

Right now HG seem heavily into bug fixing. We had a public holiday last weekend, 29 Mar to 1st April and they posted fixes in the testing branch on the Monday. A day when it is traditional to down tools, and spend the day stuck in traffic trying to go out somewhere to shelter from the rain with your family.

I suspect, as the video said... more to come.
