Report a translation problem
Since they removed the static save we used too have, there are so many more reports of people stuck in various predicaments like this. I used to use it all the time as basically an in game backup, where if i made a really bad choice or wrong-button kerfluffle, no biggie.
A simple button in options ... OP could have made a static save, joined that player in their group and then when he got suckered in and trapped, could have texted the guy, "HA,HA... very fuuuuuny", restored his save point and moved on playing like nothing happend.
In fact, with static save in place, it might not be so appealing for dorks to create traps like this in the first place, since they would know it would be easy for someone to get out of it.
I mean what's the point of HG having removed the static save anyway... it's not like they aren't allowing a 3rd party to dev and maintain a full blown "save editor" that basically makes for an anything you want God Mode.
THe "autosave" they replaced the static save with is absolutely useless, unless all you do in game is build stuff... why couldn't they have simply added autosave as a 3rd option makes no sense.
1. If you went from the anomaly to this person's base you'll have an option in the Quick Menu (press X) to "Return to Anomaly" and you'll be back instantly.
2. You'll also have an Option to "report base" (save quick menu); which if you do, the base disappears & you can (maybe) use the terrain manipulator again.
The game makes an auto save frequently and a manual save is made when a player leaves their starship or makes one at a save point or manually saves at a beacon or saves at a building location. Usually if a save becomes corrupted the player can choose to reload from the local manual save (menu Restore Point) and that usually restores things before the point of dying. The manual save can be selected from the two saves the game displays in the menu. Also it is possible with the game not running to remove the 'corrupted' auto save (file(s) in the game folder). The game would then load from the remaining manual save and a new auto save file is created. Back up you save game files before trying anything like that as save file naming is important to be correct. The game save files are dated in pairs. There are helpful threads explaining the steps to do that. Before trying anything like that simply try loading from the manual save point in the menus.
If you leave the anomaly by the teleporter there is always a return to Anomaly button in the Quick Menu which is a fast return for the player, without having to get in a ship and fly into space and then call the anomaly. The return to Anomaly icon is useful especially in circumstances like yours or if the game glitches when visiting a base (or glitched location) after immediately teleporting from the Anomaly. The quick menu return to Anomaly function, saves a lot of time if you like visiting many multiplayer bases, one after the other. and is designed to help avoid getting stuck leaving the Anomaly.
Some players can be blissfully unaware there are settings to enable other players the ability to remove terrain and not realise bases have may have default restrictions enabled preventing other players from removing terrain or editing the base parts. It seems you met a player deliberately intent on being annoying. That happens very rarely but sadly it happened.
As mentioned above, if you can reach the base computer of the problem base, there is an interaction option to report the base and it will be removed from your game.
The most extreme way to get a character to safety and place a character in a different location, before starting the game is to use a save editor and there is a lot of information in this forum and online too about this. The save editor can also remove bases from the save file code and it may be possible to delete the other player base causing the problem. (that may be simpler than trying to displace your character in this situation, as it is not the environment causing the problem)
Lastly you might try one other method of grouping directly with a friend at the opening of the game multiplayer menu. Both players need to share friend codes to group up. This may put your character in your friend's game in a different location before the game starts but I do not know if this will work as I rarely do much group play by this means and only ever group up while in game. Also they may be able to join you (in group) and try reporting the base. No idea if this would work.
Just for your peace of mind, since the release of the game I have only been caught out in looping death situations (teleporting under a volcano) from glitches and only once from being trapped in a base and once from being trapped in my own base LOL. PvP can be easily turned off too and there are several options now in place mentioned above that help avoid problems.
At the end of the day if you have lost seemingly a lot of progress the game now has Custom settings that has a selection of settings to make the game super easy or super hard. On a new save, it is possible to turn a Normal Game into a Creative game and use creative mode to give the character everything they need (expand inventories or quickly accumulate vast amounts of anything and progress, obtain ships easily, reach previous locations using portals, rebuild bases without limits and so on) and then return the character to the Normal Mode again to continue as before. That would be perhaps the safest way to restore a character status and not use a save editor. The only thing that may not be so easily restored are the previous locations visited. Changing a custom game to Creative Mode also in some situations may allow a character to escape an extreme environment as they can be invulnerable, especially if they have damaged tech from dying repeatedly.
However if you do this, it can be useful to keep a copy of the corrupted game save as using a save editor you could identify previous locations and revisit them, even restore bases (but that is complex but there are tutorials how to use the save editor) I would prefer to use custom mode and rebuild my character and progress from a new save very quickly. The annoying situation will soon be forgotten and you'll hopefully be back to enjoying the game again, knowing how custom mode can be used to your advantage and not a save editor used at all.
One final thought. Before playing the game it can be helpful to always make a useful quick back up copy of the game save folder and its files, each time before sitting down to play. if something goes wrong for any reason, perhaps the game crashes or locks up then you can simply copy the safety back up and continue. That can be a safety too when playing permadeath (which is kind of cheating but then its fun to play permadeath and keep a long time save going but still have the thrill of permadeath to be more of a welcome inconvenience to restore and 'resurrect' your character even if it means losing only several hours of play but not a whole year of permadeath play and avoids losing all your beautiful permadeath bases. : ) ... then again perhaps that is what survival mode is for and you can now in addition change custom settings to make that more hostile, so the thrill remains but you don't lose the save on death.
Hopefully there may be something useful in some of the tips above to avoid awkward situations. Goodluck. : )
I'm really sorry to hear you have had such an encounter. Sadly there are jerks in many games and you appear to have met a prime example. Lets see if we cant get you out of that situation.
1. Make a backup of your save games, they are in Windows(C:) > Users > <your windows user name > AppData > Roaming > HelloGames.
AppData is a hidden folder so you may need to click the Hidden Items box in the view panel of Windows explorer.
2. Now start the game but do not load those saves. We are going to make it so that you cannot die to PvP damage first. Go to the options and in Network disable Multiplayer.
3. Now select play. This will load the last save game that was created, and will probably have you underground. If it does, press escape and load the older of the 2 save games. With luck this will place you in the anomaly, from when you exited you ship. If it does not and you are still stuck move on the 4.
4. If you are still underground and cannot dig out as you are told you do not have edit permissions, bring up the quick menu (default x on the keyboard). Select the cog, on the far left. Now scroll to the right until you see the igloo icon with the exclamation mark. Select that and take a screen shot as requested. The griefers base will then be removed.
You might like to make a note of their user name so you can report this directly to the devs.
If you cannot see the igloo icon then it could be that they have really been evil and you are too far from the computer or any structures. I confess I do not know if this is possible, but if you are in that situation then I believe the only option will be a save editor. Post back here if this is the case and hopefully someone with knowledge of these will be able to help.
5. If you have been able to report the base, we now need to make it so you don't die to the planet's environment. Press escape and select Difficulty and change the following
Survival elements = None
Survival difficulty = Relaxed
Damage levels = None
Technology damage = None
Death consequences = No item loss
Scroll down further and also set
On foot combat = none
Space combat = none
Creatures = Passive
You are now more or less indestructible and can dig you way out without having to worry about dying again. Hopefully you will be able to find your grave and get back to your ship.
Finally you might like to report the whole thing to Hello Games on their Zen Desk > https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us < you can include the save games you made a backup off as well.
Hope this helps.
It is not cool to make people get stuck.
I waited for that MF to close his game then I managed to escape the hole but there was a shield dome preventing my escape in the area but whenever i exit my starship, the game glitch me up in the sky where that MF built another trap that would prevent my escape on foot. It was a area where i can see through the planet and i was walking on a invisible floor but there was a teleporter that leads to a prefab dome with no doors. Fortunately, I got back to my ship by reloading the save where i was back in the hole, position myself near the shield dome and exit the starship which still launched me back up in the sky and it luckily glitched me outside of the shield dome. I was finally free but my ship the was still inside was out of fuel. As a new player I panicked but luckily my other friend who also recently tried out the game suggested to summon my other starship and escape that damned planet. We took screenshots of the base and the name of the player and will soon report it. However i am reluctant to go back to his base and report it through his base terminal cuz that MF might have set up another trap near it.
Multiplayer is slightly buggy when there is only one person in your session but still enjoyable. Overall, I learned that I should no longer accept invites from random players. Thanks again for all the advises.
WOW, That's very helpful. Thanks for sharing with us. I've been reading to be sure I don't get caught up. I'm thankful to the OP, and the other posters.
I'm really disappointed that this happened to you, Rathvern. It's unfortunate, and foolish behavior. Great to hear you are still optimistic
You got me to wondering. Can't you hit X, and see base names that are nearby? I use X for screenshots. I see other icons occasionally. I'm thinking it was the ability to report a base. X key, far right icons when in the vicinity.
Those icons come and go. I hadn't paid much attention to them, but there may be something there?
Agree, completely.
