adrift is this just a time limited thing or play at anytime
Not played for a long time and was thinking this new adrift game play seems like a good option to play but I am not sure if its some strange time limit mode.
If its time limited then I guess I will not bother as I cant see the fun in sinking hours into a game that I cant come back to at a later date if life gets busy.

I wonder the same, if you finish the expedition, the savegame usually transforms into a "normal" game. But does that mean that everything changes back to "normal" and the galaxy becomes crowded again with life?
I really dislike this whole expedition thing. It was fun for the first 3 or 4 expeditions, but after that, it become more of a chore like "oh god, i just got 3 days to do this expedtion!". It would be more fun to make all expeditions available all the time, or just give up that expedition thing and do some more permanent things to the gameplay.
I activly try to avoid expeditions right now, because it is just stress to me, even knowing i am going to miss on rewards. But i would be still curious what happens to this very special expedition after its over. Maybe someone already finished the expedition and know what happens after that?

You got "only" 2 months or so to finish the expedition, after that it will propably auto-switch the save to normal game after loading...

If you want the ship and rewards, do it, if not skip it, like all expeditions its optional and limited time of TWO MONTHS. You can bring back things you earn to your main save from the expedition now. The ship and custom paints seem worth it to me.

While I know it is a timed event (2 months) I'm kind of liking the solitude and wish that after the expedition we are able to keep this universe as it is and if we want to see NPC's we can gate to a new universe.

We're able to build bases in this empty universe. So, when the expedition ends, where will those bases be? Makes me wonder.

I also really like the solitude. A base where you don't have ships flying over head every few minutes, don't have whole fleets of frigates warping in for the sole purpose of flying over your head. I mean, sure, one could always go to certain systems for that already, but now it's the whole galaxy. It's like they finally listened.

I actually kind of wonder if the empty universe is going to wind up being kind of like Galaxy 256, where you can only get to it if you already have a base in it, or only if someone can take you there. Many things from expeditions are "limited edition" in a like vein. But, who knows.

well I would like the empty universe but I will wait and see if it is an option on new games after the timing as this type of game play interests me more then to a degree the real game.

Everything in NMS is time-limited... it's the worst part of the game. This newest update allows you to make the game more barren, which... is awesome?

It's not.

i just re-installed the game once again because I thought empty universe would be permanent option ... well... timed events are not my thing so I guess I will just uninstall once again. :P

Huh? Only the periodic expeditions are time-limited, and they give "exclusive" rewards for doing them. (I put "exclusive" in quotes because if you really want them, there are other ways to get them.) The rest of the game has some things that have timers, so you have to wait for things to complete, but nothing is time-limited.

If you want a permanently-emptier universe, I believe there are mods that do that.

Expeditions are generally not terribly interesting. I only completed two or three maybe. Played this for less than two hours and quit it too. They add a twist like this, but just for the expedition itself.

and what are these other ways to get those "exclusive" things?

There's a mod that I use called Consumerism. You can, for 3000 quicksilver each, buy the rewards that you've missed out on. I think it's a fair exchange, you don't get them for 'free' - so it doesn't feel like cheating.

The downside is that it doesn't function like an expedition reward, which means you have to buy it again on another character.

Adrift is expedition #13. Each expedition has a time limit, special features, planets adjusted just for the expedition, etc. An expedition is "something different" between main updates. They are optional and the save reverts to "Normal mode" when the expedition ends. Many of the "special aspects," weapons, starships, etc. of an expedition do not become available in Normal mode.

So people who have not played the expedition can't get them (unless they use a mod or the out-of-game Save Editor.).

Your bases will still be there on that save. It is not clear if the systems will stay the same. They have done some kind of magic to make the galaxy all abandoned all the time. I am guessing some of those systems will change back to what ever they were before the Expedition.

It is not clear at this point. This is a new rabbit out of the hat for HG. They may have just found some way to keep any discovered systems to default to the Expo norm if they are discovered by any player during the expeditions. My best bet is some planets discovered will switch back after the Expo concludes. We just don't know for sure.

It is a pretty safe bet that your bases will still be there. The nasty environments and lack of NPC occupied dwellings and activity...not so much.
