Gather whispering eggs!
Oh no. My worst nightmare come true.

Also I sold my Hypnotic Eye at a trade terminal, in the first abandoned station. Who knew I'd need one to make the Mind Ark? Why did I even have a Hypnotic Eye in the first place?
Was it a mission reward somewhere in Phase I? Now I have to swim until I find an underwater abyssal horror.

And how the heck am I going to find a severe weather planet with Activated Copper?

This is the toughest Expedition yet, and I love it! Finally a freakin' challenge!! :steamhappy:

I don't know if I can gather 30 Whispering Eggs. I saw that Herculean task on the screen, after I somehow make this Mind Ark. :shudder: I'm going to die.

The eggs are scattered about and you can just grab & run.
I didn't think ANY transactions were able to be done at the station terminal.

I haven't been to the second planet in the starting system but I'm pretty sure it has Activated Copper.

I'm enjoying it all so far. That first airless planet, I was digging up a treasure and turned around to find the worms had shown up. Do they migrate now? There was nothing there when I landed. Nor for the first couple of minutes. Then they were all like "rah!". And I was all like "ahh!" But then we talked and it's all good now.
Happy travels.

Pop an egg, grab the core, fly up to the top of the building, wait for the swarm to subside, repeat. Also, the horrors are nowhere *near* so horrific as they were when they first appeared in-game; those guys still give me nightmares.

From what I remember, don't the eggs drop a bouncing -- a really erratic, unpredictable bouncing, like one of those vibrating toddler toys called "Bumble Ball" -- little ball that is literally impossible to target and pick up with a controller before it disappears in 3 seconds, after bouncing around like a ping-pong ball on crack?

I'm not looking forward to this. Last time I even tried was years ago, and I had to dig a tunnel for the ball to roll down into a hollow -- and I ended up grabbing maybe one out of ten balls that dropped. And I have to get 30 of these little bas^ards? GAH. :steammocking:

Also I have zero armor. And no way to buy armor. The only way to get shield upgrades would be to randomly find them in those space capsule things.

I'M SCARED, MAN.

I'll try what you suggested, though. I thought I would never need to worry about those things again, and they sprung this on me.

I think the easiest is to collect them on the airless planets. You grab one and fly away using the fwd/shift/Q jump. Kind of an exploit I guess, but it's fun so I guess they just left it in. As long as you have that forward momentum, you can stay in the air for a good bit. Just keep an eye on the jet pack bar raising and lowering. Those eggs are everywhere on those planets as well, so as soon as you lose the horde. Just land, grab another egg and repeat.

Took me 20 minutes to gather the 16 I needed. Not sure how long waiting for despawns take, but I know 1 despawn takes awhile. Actually it was probably closer to 15 minutes because i've been messing around in the forums, haha.

You can also dig yourself a hole, just like when fighting Sentinels, grab the core, hop in the hole, and seal it. If you dig the hole deep enough (sometimes the AI needs you to put a change of direction in it, too), you don't even need to seal it up, just wait them out.

Starting planet is without atmo - so no enviromental hazards, sentinels on start are also rare
(even if planet listing high sentinel activity).
And it has both the eggs and the worm nests (not sure of english name, I'm playing in polish langauge). And there are some high mountains - I did the climbing milestone there too.
Also You have Terrain Manipulator from start so You can actually build a safe earth pillar for jump on after grabbing an egg...

Edit:
Also the other planet in starting system (there are only two in that system?) got Activated Copper to mine (the system name is Issiugr - I think).
It also got severe weather and Lightning Crystals...

You can buy Hypnotic Eye on the space station commerce terminal.

I do something like that too, when I pick the eggs nowadays, but I don't wait for them to stop swarming.
I stand on the roof, shoot an egg, check where it rolls, jump down and pick it up, and then quickly get back up on the roof, shoot the next egg, jump down, pick it up, back up on the roof, and so on.
You have to be quick, because the egg disappears after a while
But the monsters don't have time to catch me, the closest ones just stand and watch, and the rest run around in circles some distance away.
Could in this way, pick all the eggs needed for the milestone, in a few minutes in the same place.
Have previously tried the methods of digging, or building around the eggs, but the method I described above is so much faster and easier.
I must have attacked an egg while I was getting attacked on the first planet. One of the horrors came at me, but I shot it dead. I used my jetpack to a top of hill when I seen 2 more came at me. I managed to get hit once before jetpacking. I made it safely to the top of the hill and farmed the rocks up there while I waited them out. This is just to make you feel just a bit easier till you can use the ship to pick eggs and then fly to next spot.

And now I see why my ship was named the way it was lol

This was absolutely not the toughest expedition yet lol

Will do, thanks.

How to get back to the starting system if I don't know the name? I'm all the way out at the first rendezvous. I know the teleporter works in the Anomaly, and also the broken-looking one seems to work in the abandoned space stations, and I know that rendezvous systems usually have a label, but is there a label for the starting system of an expedition?

Thanks, the rest of you, for the tips. A question: are you folks using a controller or M+KB? Do the egg-things still bounce around like mad before they disappear?

What a great screenshot.

Same thing happened to me on the initial planet. I was probably mining C+ and accidentally hit a whispering egg, but the punch-jump and jetpack got me away easy, and the swarm subsided.

Last time I tried mining these eggs was a few weeks after they were first introduced. I was doing the tunnel-under trick and attacking them from below, and hiding out in the tunnels. I quit doing it for two reasons, and it seems like maybe they fixed reason #1?

#1 The swarm would never, ever subside when I was hiding in the tunnels. I could go for lunch and come back and they'd still be all above me, a dozen red dots looking for me.

#2 The money/risk was too great, as I had switched to mining dinosaur bones and storm crystals at the same time for relatively EZ money.
@ Masque

Thank you! Also, because of you, now I know that I will need those eggs later down the road :steamlaughcry: I avoid them at all cost too. These did go away after about 5 min, at least before leaving the planet.

I wish I hadn't looked at the next few steps in Phase II. I don't like to spoil myself. But I'm glad at the same time, as I got some great tips here. :amadeus_happy:
