Are Expeditions timed/temporary events?
Because Adrift seems like an adventure I want to be able to experience any time, without the worry of it being gone by Fall or something.

Yes, they are timed events.

That sucks. I don't want these cool scenarios to fade away. I want to always be able to experience them.

Yep, they're a FOMO-bait with some unique cosmetic (mostly) rewards.

They usually rerun expeditions in December and January. Some features are latter incorporated into the base game.

Same. Reading about Adrift at first I thought it was a permanent new game mode that sounded great and brought the game back closer to its original vision. A shame.

It's especially confusing since Adrift is a SOLO experience, so there's no need for it to be timed. It's not like you need it be timed for drawing in enough players to participate together.

All Expeditions are temporary, but they have, in the past, replayed all of them during the Holiday Season that were released during the year. So, they will replay this one in December/January.

That, and you have Seven Weeks to complete it. That's just shy of 2 months.

A dedicated player could probably finish it in sub-10 hours. The expedition before this I finished in about 5 hours of played time.

It's not solo, if multi player is on you see other players just the same as any other expedition. That part of the description is misleading.

So, despite the trailer, you aren't alone? What's the point of it being an abandoned/unexplored universe if it's not empty then?

It is abandoned/empty.

Unless, of course, you turn multiplayer on (I don't understand why you'd wanna do that...).

With MP off, you truly are alone. You'll see comm balls but they are muted, thank God.

But isn't that how it is for the game in general? Are all expeditions playable solo? If so, why can't we have the option to play all of these expeditions whenever we want? I hate timed events for something that can be a solo experience.

Many expeditions are enclosed experiences that modify the game in some way, sometimes altering how the game works, sometimes removing tech, others add unique tech not obtainable outside of said expedition. They also cause a massive issue with glitches and bugs in multiplayer due to the massive amount of people and bases in the same systems. I think they prefer them isolated and not constantly doable because the universe in the expeditions and out of them aren't entirely compatible. But I'd be down with every expedition being made permanently available to replay or play at any point. Save for technical restrictions, I don't see why not since someone else suddenly being able to obtain cool rewards I have from playing them and that were supposed to be limited time only, has no bearing on my gameplay or ability to enjoy it. Some get cranky that their cool thing isn't exclusive so they don't feel special if it's opened to all, but I don't care. I don't feel cool for having some time-exclusive item in a video game when others don't. It's neat, but ultimately just bits/bytes in a video game and my life doesn't revolve around gaming

Wow, I had no idea that these developers had resulted to psychological manipulation to sell their game. This really makes me not want to ever play it anymore. What a shame, I thought these developers were supposed to be good.

/facepalm

It has nothing to do with manipulation or trying to sell copies of the game.

They are just supposed to be fun events you can do for some aesthetic and other rewards, and they will re-run them again during the Holidays.

Doesn't change the fact, that their entire fundamental design is to manipulate people into playing a game in a specific time frame, when they otherwise wouldn't. What's the reason for them not making the "events" permanent then?
