I agree about wanting more glass building pieces. Also, I'd like more wall/floor sizes, eg, 1/4 of a full size wall/floor, and maybe diagonal railings that can go with the stairs, etc.
In fact, maybe instead of a bunch of pre-sized ones, I'd love to have floors and walls that have settings attached where you can choose the size of each side, maybe something like 5 sizes to choose from for each of the X and Y axes. That would give lots of variation for each building piece.
Same for things like stairs, settings for number of steps, maybe angle, etc.
And, instead of having separate sets of parts for the same shape/size just because it's got a different texture, eg wood, stone, and metal, maybe just have ONE part that contains a selection drop-down with a list of the available textures to choose from. The variations that usually force a texture change on players based on first floor, second floor, etc, could just be listed in there too, eg stone1, stone2, etc, or something like that.
Also, a LOT more textures are needed to choose from. If HG were to accept new textures being offered by people in the community, maybe every so often they'd add a bunch of new ones to the game. People could sign something that they made it themselves and that they are giving usage rights to the texture to HG, or maybe HG either pays them something or gives them an in-game gift, or it's simply acknowledged that the player allows free use forever for HG to use it. Lots of players would submit textures for free use, I suspect (including me). And, it's not like it would add an unreasonable amount of extra hard drive space that the game needs even if they were to add hundreds of new textures.
Another thing that's really needed, is for the colours to be fixed. Almost none of the building parts have colour changes that work right. Also, they are limited in colour choices more than games in the 90s were. At least those usually gave you 16 reasonable colours to choose from. The whole range was there, even if narrowed down to only 16 of them. In NMS' building menus though, the choices are limited to a very dull, pre-combined-with-each-other range, with most colours missing altogether.
Speaking of colours, even though this one isn't about bases, it would be nice to have a setting to make the sky colour not actually add any colour to the lighting. For instance, the sky could stay LOOKING bright orange, but the lighting rays would be white so that it won't dull out the colours of things on the ground and make everything tinted with orange.
A huge base building overhaul would be wonderful. The amazing scenery mixed with a LOT more textures, parts, and colours, would be absolutely mindblowing.
Cogvos, I will do that -- thanks for the reminder.
Also, I do realize there are mods for builders, with many more parts and much more functionality (such as resizing the godawful humungous storage containers, for instance), but I don't like to use mods for building bases.
