Pirate Dreadnought event not showing up, help?
My friend has been trying to get a pirate dreadnought to spawn without success. He warped well over 20 times and has been playing the game for more than 3 hours. Warping on pirate controlled systems and sometimes on 3 star conflict systems without luck.

He plays on PC Gamepass version of NMS, btw, I'm not sure if there might be some issue related to that. Any ideas on what might be causing this issue? Is it just terrible RNG?

Edit: Forgot to mention that the small pirate ship attacks seem to trigger normally for him from time to time, just not the pirate dreadnought one;

Edit 2: He has both the economy and conflict scanners installed on his ship

(I got mine to spawn after about 3-4 warps and got an S class after about 20 attempts, been playing on Steam)

I was having the same issue, then read somewhere that you need a regular freighter (any class will do for this) to get the pirate dreadnaught fight to spawn. I didn't really put much into it, but I had no better ideas, so I went and did my 5 jumps to get the regular freighter rescue, got a class C Korvak freighter and went to a space station to create a new restore point, fresh. Then, I did the 3 jumps, making sure on the 3rd that I selected a high conflict or pirate system to get my dreadnaught. Voila! I got a B Class my first try, then I've been tossing everything I come across until I find the S Class I want. The freighter seemed to do the trick. I have no other explanation.

I have the same problem. I've been doing close to 100 warps into pirate sectors and all I ever get is the small pirate ship event.

Steam version.

I'm not sure how the odds work but I know that for a while, all I was hitting were dreadnought fights. Then it switched back to regular freighter for about 4-5 encounters, then another two dreadnought. All I can think of is that in between the wave of regular encounters and the new wave of dreadnoughts, I had done some warps with my current freighter. Maybe that triggered something.

from wot i've seen in the gamefiles, it's 3-star economy (or even better outlaw), NOT conflict... makes sense really... 'follow the money'
but it still just a percentage chance to get the encounter

you need to have a freighter first

Yes, we just tested it and that seems to be the case. I had initially dismissed this possibility because as far as I remember, and I'm 90% sure of this, I got mine to spawn without having any kind of freighter (expedition save), but anyways. I'm just glad it isn't a bug, thanks for the help

Unfortunately, this doesn't entirely solve the problem. There is still something weird going on. I did not own a freighter and the pirate freighter event did spawn for me, twice.

...then it never spawned again, after somewhere around 100 jumps into pirate systems.

[EDIT]: I can confirm that getting a normal freighter did work for me as well, though.

Ty, i buy a freighter, jump just one time and plop the battle spawn (after 60+ jumps of nothing). Thank you very much.

honestly i'm having the same issue. I already own a freighter and had even been getting pirate encounters like normal, now it seems almost random. I went like 10 pirate system jumps with no encounter, then I went to do check the market and mission in a random three star system, with my immediate next jump having a dreadnought encounter.

I feel like there may be a bug rn

100% This is not working as intended.

Not all systems spawn dreadnaught.... it slightly differs from normal freighters. So even when it's dreadnaught time, if you jump to a system that cant spawn a dreadnaught, you wont get the event.
GenSec39 Feb 23, 2024 @ 2:59pm
They reworked this event after they added pirate freighter. I doesn't work as before. You don't need that '4 hours, 5 jumps' condition any more. Now you have to watch for conflict level of the system.

10% of systems with high conflict will always spawn pirate freighter event. A-a-and 20% of pirate systems will always spawn this event as well. NMS wiki states that old system also works but it doesn't work for me anymore. Now I have systems that always spawn pirate dread event (no matter how often you visit them) and the ones that never spawn any such events.

However, I recently got standard freighter battle (just with common pirate spaceships) on my fresh expeditions save.
