How to Find My Grave
I was doing the Expedition and I died on a moon that I had landed on. I died in a deep hole that I dug trying to scan all of the flora and fauna that I'd fallen into when I saw that there was an 'armored clam' icon. I'd scanned everything I could see, but seeing that there must be some water somewhere I decided to terraform down to see if I could get into some new area. I had stayed up late and was tired so I just logged off. When I started playing the next day, I'd forgotten about dying until I'd warped a few times and then realized I had nothing in my inventory.

Can I still find my grave (I haven't died since then)? I tried going out into space to pull up the galaxy map but it doesn't show my grave marker anywhere. The only thing I remember of where I died was that I'd landed on a moon that I'd named and I was hoping to find it that way, but when I went into my "Discoveries" tab, it doesn't show moons.

I'd sure hate to lose all the Expedition rewards that I'd happened to have in my inventory along with all the other thing's I'd accumulated.

The discovery tab will show moons- but it is not uncommon for the game to get confused about who is first discoverer and allow you to rename a moon or planet/system only to correct that mistake on the next upload to the server.

It is actually rare to find something undiscovered in an Expedition...which is why I mention the above.

You are probably screwed but some work should get you back to a reasonable amount. I would visit some bases and stock up on supplies. I am not aware of any quest item in the Expedition where you can't make more of it or find the item again. It is extra work, but you got four weeks left.

There may be some rewards you lost that have a cosmetic value but don't really impact how you play the Expedition. If you really want those, you may need to start over.

Good luck.

As a last resort, you could use 'goatfungus' NMS save editor to give you back the stuff you lost. (I won't tell, promise) :steamhappy: https://github.com/goatfungus/NMSSaveEditor

As far as I am aware a 'grave' only persists until a load / unload event occurs. Logging off (exiting the game) will therefore remove it, as will 'porting or warping somewhere else.

As outlined above you won't lack for necessities needed to complete the expedition. The only real downside I can think of involves the unhatched companion eggs bestowed by completion of the optional objectives... and they're easily acquired through other means.

Pets lay eggs, after all.

Just a thought, if you have collected the rewards, like eggs, they should be available at the QS vendor for collection via any save. Not sure if you can claim them again on the save you died in though.

Do you have a quicksave you can load, aside from the auto save? Often you'll have more than one save you can load. You might have one from prior to your death?

I'm not certain they can be (re)claimed at all. The one egg I kept back because I wanted to arrange them in descending order of utility is already marked as redeemed by the quicksilver vendor even though it isn't among the cross-save rewards this time around.
