Camera Distance
Is it possible to pan the camera out more in third person view. Id like the ability to increase the distance as in Photo mode. Secondly, how about a 360 view of your ship while flying in space.

You can hold alt and pan around the ship. It's not 360, more like 180....90 to the left, 90 to the right. No on the camera zoom. That's my biggest gripe with NMS... not being able to zoom in and out on my avatar.

Ya, I agree with ya. I like to zoom out when flying and running around on planets.

There are some camera mods out there, I used to use one all the time that was a centered, zoomed out a bit position... but nobody has made (and probably not possible or it would have been I think) one that lets you zoom in/out the camera like most 3rd person games. That is one thing I truly wish were in the game. Just good old fashioned scroll wheel camera zoom would be awesome :)

I would reallly love to zoom it and out. Not sure why we don't have that option. How hard could it be? :lunar2019crylaughingpig:Hitting run mode does bring the camera out to its furthest point so that will become 2nd nature and isn't terrible but certainly not perfect.

Consoles don't have mouse wheel. Since NMS is designed to run on consoles first and foremost, they won't bother going the extra mile to give PC users the option.

You have to go into:

D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS

and enter the file "TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML" using notepad

then scroll down to this part:

<Property name='FoVOnFoot' value='180.000000' />
<Property name='FoVInShip' value='120.000000' />

And change the values. I have my characters FOV set to 180 and the ships FOV set to 120.

Once done, restart the game and open it back up and see if it changed

This helps a little by expanding your field of view, but it's not the same. When I enter a cave the camera is right up on my avatar taking up 60% of the screen. I'd like to be able to roll the camera away some. When I am out in the open I also want to be able to roll the camera away from my avatar. When I enter a building I want to be able to roll the view in closer. The auto zoom the camera does in different scenarios is clunky and disorienting.
I can imagine that to be safe the camera FOV is limited in part because of how the game renders random procedural scenery. The FOV needs to be compromised to something comfortable (and mostly it does work very well) in a variety of situations like procedural caves, clear of randomly placed rocks, flora and boulders, underwater, building structures, exocars, interiors and exteriors, riding creature types, ship layouts and so forth.

Personally I like the camera defaults as too wide a FOV makes me feel woozy. A helpful thing is to use the deliberately designed, in game Quick Menu key binds, for changing camera view (or other functions) in any menu. The hot bind (I use key pad 2 on {PC) can be further applied and customised to any controller button as a legacy keyboard key. Then a long button hold to change 3rd person to 1st on foot or in ship which is great in a space battle, in combination with dots on the radar. Another button can be used to throw bait quickly and other things like the in cockpit music playlist on or off while driving. Another button brings up the secondary weapon, or selects photo mode instantly which is great for dramatic moments while using a controller, when the shot would be lost pausing to reach for the keyboard.

Sadly this is the only way i know of changing the cam :(

Thanks all. Great community. Now I would wish they could render our avatar when sitting in the cockpit to be seen from the outside.

Not even in an invisible ship can one see the supposed avatar.

Closet you'll ever get is not outside the ship, but with 1st person, inside ship with VR. Not depicted in vid above btw.
