Biodome Plants
Why do they give such an awkward number of resources? 78 Frost Crystal per plant? What? WHY?! It's used for glass at 40:1, why in the name of Sean Murray would it give 78 instead of 80?!

All of them seem to give some multiple of 39. Why did they make such a needless changes? I *know* Frost Crystal used to be harvested in some nice multiple of 40.

I'm fairly certain there's a range of possible values.

A noob question, but is there a need or reason to grow your own plants..? I have only done it so far to complete the base missions..

Yes. Without spoiling late-game high-end crafting recipes, plant+Salt=element associated with their ecosystem. For example: Gamma Root+Salt=Uranium, Frost Crystal+Salt=Dioxite, and so on.
Furthermore, you can plant Gravitino Hosts (that give fairly rare and somewhat expensive Gravitino Balls), Mordite Roots, and some other stuff that will really help with crafting and cut down on some of the grinding.

Most industry relies on crop grown plants. For example, I used to be able to put 5 Gamma Weed, 3 Frostwort and 2 Gutrot Flower in a biodome, and every 4 hours I could come back and use all of those plants to craft exactly one Living Glass to sell for a half million. That's not the most lucrative, but it was simple and easy and I'm lazy. But it was nice, it used all the materials, there was no excess or overflow I'd have to worry about, nice, whole numbers.

Now that things harvest in multiples of 39, it screws up that nice formula so now I'm going to have excess resources that need to be destroyed or banked. It's just one more little tedious thing I didn't used to have to deal with.

Yeah I have finished the farmer missions and planted the mordite, grav balls etc, just wasn't sure if there was any point in doing any planting in the future..

In your case I can understand why a change in crop yield would be annoying. You had a system that was working nicely and now that numbers are different, I get it. I didn't know about the crop + salt = ??? thing though, that's good to know, thanks..

Have you tried removing the Optical Drill attachment from your multi-tool?

That is very, very interesting. Thank you.

EDIT: Also, how long have we been able to harvest from the console at the top of the biodome? Holy time-savers, Batman, that's awesome!

EDIT 2: Tinkering with the LCMs of the various yields, I think what I really need is to add some mining modules to get the adjacency bonus maximized. To get a perfect ratio would only take 175 plants. That's only 14 13-slot biodomes. Can stuff some Gravatino Balls or something in the spare slots. While yes, no Optical Laser would return it to 8/4/2, the yield would be obviously much less.

To go a little further into why plant farming is necessary, you need them to build high value items that you will unlock as you play. Those items can go for around 1.5 million units each. I don't think I need to explain any more than that lol
