Bases keep getting buried in rock
Ho there
Is anyone else experiencing their bases being buried with rock?
I have used the flatter tool in the terrain manipulator to clear space for base building. I build the base and when i com back all the rock that i cleared has come back and buried my base.

Thanks for any advice or help

underground base? relateable. Sometimes the rendering always spawn the rock so try not making it i guess. sometimes it work but mostly very risky imo. Idk if they fixed it or not.

Are you playing multiplayer? On my game, if i joined a friend's session and use the flatten tool it will revert all the time. On single player I use it and it works fine.

Terrain regeneration is too unstable to risk and build bases underground.

Have you done many terrain edits on previous bases?
There is a limit of 15000 edits, if you do more then it will no longer be saved, so if you leave the game or fly out into space, then when you come back the game has forgotten all your changes.

The amount of buffer used is visible in a small ring in the building window, if the buffer is full it is replaced with a red X

It happen with my base either, after a multiplayer game. I solved restarting the game.
However, my other bases with terrain edition got coverd.

There's a base terrain edit limit, but also the system can't remeber edits well and often terrain regrows even if the limit is not reached. It's a huge quantity of data to store and bloats your savefile that goes several hundred megas big.

Solution: never edit terrain inside base perimeter:

1) Find a flat surface near existing npc buildings or structures, like monoliths, portals, trading posts, factories ,etc.

2) Build elevated over the terrain, then if you care about realism put foundations item under the building so pylons that touch the ground are created.

3) If you want to go underground find existing caves.

Even elctromagnetic generators or autominers don't need to touch the ground.

This solutions will make your bases much more durable and your save file much more slim to load.

Every base not built on flat terrain is at risk to be invaded from terrain again, grass inside buildings, etc. There is nothing you can do about I think. Foundations help to some extend, problem is some parts don't snap upon foundations... I keep my base-building very simple and I use prefabs only if possible.

When it happens to my base, I use the terrain manipulator in the 'flatten mode' and just go around wherever it is sticking up or in and bang it back down again. It did it several times around the time of the patch last week, not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it kind of stopped a couple days ago and hasn't encroached lately. But the 'flatten' will fix that inside right away.
