Can't Use Electromagnetic Power, Am I Stuck With Solar..?
I got the surveying mod, the mate to build the electro tower, but the nearest hotspot is a little too far from my base. I can manage to get the tower placed but the distance is too far for a connection to my base.

Does this mean I am stuck with solar panels and batteries everywhere.., or is the a way around this..?

Thanks for you help...

How far from your base? If it is within 1000 U there is a simple trick to resolve that.

Edit: I may have misread that. Did a friend build the EG? If so you will need to place your own.

The hotspot is about 350U from my base, so yeah..

Place a marker at the hotspot, then from your base walk towards it with build turned on with something like a battery or pillar in hand. When it drops from your build menu back up until it returns and then place it. Repeat until you reach the hot spot. You can only do this so far, but 350 U is easily within your range. If a friend placed the EG you will need your own.

Ah, well I know the point where things disappear from the build menu, and standing there I was able to place the electro tower right on, or damn close to, the hotspot but it's too far away to connect it to my base via the wire.

Placing it isn't the problem, it's connecting it to my base that I can't do..

I had the same situation with a miner, I just put down a microbase on the hotspot. A solar panel, a battery, a base computer and the mining unit. Then ran the cable from the mining outpost to my base's storage tank, around 380 units total.
guys, place a half arch from the basic parts and use it as a power pol. just start with the wire at the ´power pol´, you dont need a snap point.... because the game generates a snap point on both ends of a wire

I like to bury power lines, right next to the generator I blast a small deep hole and set the first length down to the bottom, then go make my next deep hole and join the wire, then restore the ground after so the holes gone. And then it comes out of the ground under or right next to base.

You should be able to run a power wire quite some distance. My first one was well over 500u from the base. But I did it with probably 5 or so lengths, instead of trying to drag out a super long one

The real tell is if you have an orange bar on the right side of the screen that says 'Editing <base name>'. If not, you are considered out of range.

I was trying to do it in one long piece, I didn't know it could be done in stages...Might be worth a try then, thankyou..

I didn't know that either, I do see it but didn't know exactly what it meant, thankyou..

I usually use batteries for my step connections to the hotspot.
