FYI, you can only have one of the cross save ships in your save. If you sell it (even if it was screwed up) the game will not let you get a second.
Further FYI, turn off MP unless you can't enjoy the game without it. Only time I see what you describe is when friends are messing around with the scrap feature at the station or trying to sell/give a copy of their ship to another player.
1: Switch one of your existing ships over to be of TYPE: Starborn Runner. Launch the Save Editor, switch to the Ship tab and now select whichever ship you want to become the Starborn Runner.
-- OR --
2: Edit your save files RAW JSON data, which can be scary for some however you should always be making backup copies before making any changes. Anywho... you need to search for this key (without the quotes "RedeemedSeasonRewards". Once located remove this entry, this time with the quotes" "^EXPD_SHIP12", <- if your file has a comma, remove that too.
HOWEVER and this is important, if that entry is the last item in the list (meaning it has NO comma), you MUST remove the comma from the end of the previous item in the list. If not this will 100% break your save file.

Also, TURN OFF MULTIPLAYER
Find a willing friend who has completed the expedition and can claim the starborn runner. The friend can start a new custom save to skip the tutorial. Both players need to be online with multi play enabled. Then both join up in a group (most reliable to be in a group) or simply meet up separately at an agreed local space station (same portal address) and use an NPC to sell the starborn runner to the NPC pilot. Then you buy the ship back off the NPC before they fly away.
Stay close to the NPC before they fly away with the ship. If they do fly away then at some point they should land again with the ship. Make a back up of your save with the ship to restore the save in case the NPC does not return and then try the whole method again. It's fun when it works. The ship will always be in it's default colours and condition when purchased.
this is true , but from the sound of the topic the Save Editor might be the easier way for them.
