If you have found, and Repaired your ship, and are Now Flying, simply look at a planet, and hit "C"...
You do not Click on things from your ship.
...that's the initial loading screen. You need to wait for the screen to white-out, at which point you should be prompted to press and hold a button; this is usually the <E> key.
This.
First time the game loads it has to create shader files that can take 5 to 10 minutes. If is still running after 15 minutes something might be wrong. They really should add a progress bar.
The second time you load a game it should be much faster.
Rule #2 if things are moving, then by all means, give it time to get there.
2 things, 1 you're not a newbie and 2 even when you were you wouldn't mistake a loading screen for a bug but... some do... can't imagine why myself, but we still keep seeing this topic come up again and again
I know... But those rules have not changed and are worth repeating. ") I can't imagine either.
And... The two rules still apply. Why doesn't someone explain to me how I am mistreating those that don't seem to know this, instead. Then maybe I can argue about this perceived injustice to humanity.
@SumGumption: there was no mistreatment during the making of this thread
Every game and or software has a loading screen because it has to load. It IS usually indicated by a bar and at times, with a picture. If that bar stops, you have no idea if it is doing anything. With an actual vid or scene, you do understand that if it isn't moving for several minutes then nothing is happening.
Maybe the issue is that it needs a sentence on the loading scene that states "the game is loading" for those that can't understand the mechanics of all programs and apps or the mechanics of things working vs not working.
Generally games have a hint that they are loading, sometimes it is a giant flashing
LOADING
and in others it is a more subtle, a please wait, a picture or something that is obviously a loading screen, a moving bar, whatever.
NMS is a bit different as you can interact with its loading screen, if you move the mouse then the stars change direction - I've always thought this was a nice touch - but I don't think it gives any hint of how long it will take. Perhaps there needs to be something? Like a conciseness rating? That would fit with the game start at least.
In any case OP, as mentioned above the game plays a moving star field until it has loaded, which can take a while.
