No text anywhere in game, is this normal?

I just bought the game and upon opening, the menu has no text, just blank boxes. I clicked on what I thought to be settings, and there its just blank boxes again. No text at all.

Is this normal? I verified my files, restarted my computer, but its still the same.

is there something Im missing?

Screenshots would be good, but yes there's supposed to be a minimum amount of text in your hud, on the bottom left you should see the name of the planet you're on.

There are context notifications for interaction on the center of the screen when you are close to something you can interact with, and there are generalized tool/mission tips/reminders on the bottom right corner of the screen.

Also general notification in the upper center part of the screen as well, including thing such as when your game is saved, whether or not you're in an area where your game cannot be saved (desolate freighters, etc).

So yeah, I'd say something's up but probably people should see what you're looking at.

the OP hasn't really gotten that far... the initial menus at the very start before entering the game are blank...

@OP, what are your system specs? especially your GPU and your GPU driver version?

I just uploaded screenshots to my library here on steam. Im not even sure how to enter into the game to take screenshots there.. I wanted to look over the settings first, but as you can see, there is no UI.

I updated my drivers, verified the local files again, restart my computer and attemped launching NMS. Now the exe. wont even open or run.

It tells me it has a problem and will now shut down, I cant even take a stream screenshot of it because the exe. doesnt even run at all. But, here is the token: 115196_0xA331F_ST76561199033318569

Ok, quick update and Ill try do more when I get home tonight.

I found that the error was coming from the multiplayer option, although I couldnt open the game to change the settings and disable multiplayer, I ran the exe. on windows 8 compatibility, which automatically disables multiplayer.

The game opens, and all text is now showing. From what I understand everything is now functional. But, ill check again when Im home to see if I can start a world and if everything runs.

Some players used to have a similar situation cause they had a program called "Reshade" in the background. Are you by any chance?

Maybe your crash dump file gives more Info ?
You find the crash dump file in:
C:\Users\YOUR_ID\AppData\Local\Temp
(it will be called something like
NMS_crash_xxxxxxxxxx_NMSVersion_0xCrashcode_SteamID.dmp

If you upload that file (uncompressed) into a cloud and give permission to download it, I may have a look into it

I can load into the game, but like you said no in game text. Movement seems fluid, beam laser fires smoothly, but menus are impossible. I've tried loading into windows 8 compatibility like op tried and it took me to an unfamiliar menu with again, no text. Any info or guidance would be appreciated

It's so weird. I just got my pc back in November or so so i thought everything would be up to date. I got the same force game shutdown error after updating, then ran in windows 8 compatibility and it works now. Thanks for your help, I hope it gets figured out cause I did wanna mess around with multiplayer a bit after i got my bearings.
