Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. If you get them earlyish the extra materials you may get from cargo and door-locked rooms can be useful re: just adding to your stocks, if you're going to be opening containers constantly anyway, but late-stage/end game it's not very important imo.
That said, IIRC there's at least a couple sidequests I've encountered where you had to have a lvl 2 at least to open doors, stuff like that. I don't know how many such sidequests there may be - I don't do tons of sidequests/haven't tried to do them all etc.
Ask again if your Atlas Pass(es) was (were) worth it ... when you have opened 1000 cylinders, base rooms, and SS back rooms, for the one-time (OK, 3 times for all 3 levels) cost of Pass creation.
(Example: There is one sort of back room on Gek Stations that can yield up to ~4+ Navigation Data. 3 Nav Data > 1 Exosuit Upgrade map ( > =U=85,000 or a Suit Slot, arguably more valuable).)
The thing is that the passes are only single use. I mean sure thing in the grand scheme of things V2 and V3 might be worthwile but V1's seem pretty pointless to me. If they opened 10 boxes or something then maybe it would have been a consideration.
I mean one can play the game without ever using them but I just wanted to clear my confusion about them as it's more trouble to make them then to receive from them. For now. I mean I'm barely 50 hours into the game and I make my money by collecting Stormcrystals with my Minotaur (Bob).
They are mainly useful early game- but you can say that about almost everything you obtain in the game. At some point, you never bother unless you are specifically trying to learn more of the lore which is locked behind doors in some of the POIs.
I've never seen a scanner-room, but then I don't often check what's behind the doors anymore. I will do now though.
I love it that even after all this time, there are still things I haven't seen in the game
I remember creating one and opening one container and I wasn't able to open the second one next to me. Apparently the Minotaur just walked away out of range and I didn't realize I crafted it in it's inventory.
How the hell did this happen and I missed it. I mean it was late at night and I was sleepy from the winter service costing a lot of energy but still.
I apologize to everyone here and let's just say whatever I wrote is complete and Utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and should be ignored. As I thought they were single use.
