Single Player procedural worlds have NEVER worked
It's been tried in the past, and it never worked then. No story+no additional players+no direction = boring within a week. Even Minecraft got old after about a week.

No, I wouldn't, because Minecraft is about building things. NMS is not about building things -- it's about exploring. I wouldn't play No Man's Sky if I couldn't explore. But I can explore in No Man's Sky.
You can explore in Minecraft too but that is not a major draw because eventually it gets boring, how does NMS do exploring so differently to Minecraft that you will keep playing after seeing Deer like creature #300?

As I said in another topic, this game is built for explorers, people who get excitement from finding new places and things. Since you don't understand how exploring in Minecraft can be engaging for very long, I don't think you are the explorer type.
Take a look at this article:
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6474/personality_and_play_styles_a_.php?print=1
Do you see how Bartle's Explorer type coincides with the Myers-Briggs type indicator ENTP, and also goes in hand with Keirsey's Rational type? That's me. What is your type?

I get that this game is huge and each and every single planet is as huge as our earth but the problem is what incentive do u have for exploring it, do u get to meet new characters, do u get to see new places which u haven't seen for the past 20hrs you have been playing the game, do you get to witness a cool new side mission..............I don't think so and this is precisely what developers like Bethesda understand. Look at Skyrim, 5 years since it released and that game still manages to amaze me. The main issue that I have with this game is, there is nothing at all, no point to the game at all except exploration.....don't get me wrong I played the fk out of Mass Effect Series and I am a diehard fan, but this game.........I don't know guys. Procedural Generation sounds cool but what are you gonna do to make the planet feel alive and populated. Some of the planets shown in gameplay footages available online look so dull, and some of them look exactly the same with varied wildlife. They tell everyone, that you can choose factions and start fighting space wars, but why would I join that particular facttion, why are they fighting, what reason they could possibly have and since the game has no story I reckon that these answers won't be given.

Terraria and Minecraft have solid crafting and other gameplay systems in place to ensure it's longevity. The procedural generation is merely a tool to help aid such gameplay systems.

So far we know very little about the gameplay systems that flesh out NMS. All we know is that everything is generated randomly and your main role is exploration and observation. The game actively discourages your creative side by putting in Sentinels so I don't see how the game has a point any more once you reach the centre of the Universe.

Still, it's an interesting discussion.

Trouble is this forum has it fill of 'interesting discussions' :)

Not when the OP's claim is false. I can understand that it's not for everyone, but Minecraft did indeed work. Spectacularly.

Wouldn't exploring and finding new types and forms of life be fun enough? Think about it. From what I've been able to gather the creatures are procedurally generated too so even the developers don't really know what's out there. That's what makes NMS so interesting. There are different types and species of similar animals right here on earth. Take birds or fish for instance. All birds on earth fly and all fish on earth swim but there's a huge difference between a buzzard and a chicken or a shark and a goldfish. Imagine Columbus when he made it to the new world. They had similar types animals in Europe but that didn't make the animals they found in the new world any less interesting. That is what I'm hoping to find in NMS. I just don't see how anybody could think it could get boring.

When everything is special, nothing is. This applies to a lot of aspects, you are going to be coming across so many new and weird looking things that no one else has seen, but guess what everyone else is seeing something else new too.
There is also a limit to the uniqueness of the designs on everything, which is specifically why I said 'Deer like creature #300, what makes #300 so special compared to #299 that you must continue playing to see #301.
That is why people say it can get boring, you and everyone else are playing the same game, are you going to care about logging into the 'shared database' and looking at what explorer #29182 named 'dog like creature #4892'? Are they going to care about yours?
Exploring is fun but typically it is used to pad out other gameplay elements, not be the major focus point of a game.

I know a game where you can explore planets, discover ne lifeforms, it's called spore. You can also fight, meet factions, expand, build new life forms, create your vessels, cities, terraform.

You say in NMS It can be fun to JUST discover new life forms and planets, and nothing else ? How ?

In X Universe, you may not have htat much planets, but you can build your empire. In elite dangerous, you can't really build your empire, but even if you can't do much on planets yet, you still can trade, upgrade your ship, do side 'missions' and make some kind of progression by helping minor or major factions, plus, you can play multiplayer or coop.

In NMS... you can... explore... Yeah... so much fun.

Oh, in Empyrion, when it's done, you'll be able to explore, discover new life forms, join factions, create factions, build your base and your ships. (in a very distant future though), the same in Space enginer. So.. yeah... I prefer to wait for the game being realeased and the firsts reviews to decide if I'll buy it or not.

And all multiplayers survival became boring too then... All survival i played were "bad" mainly cause of the community, only way to enjoy was to find a server with a lot of rules and even there you had to give some proof that you did everything right... well maybe this one will be an epic survival / explorer but solo who knows. ARK is really good even if you play it solo only.
geebee666 2016 年 3 月 9 日 上午 3:29
I take it most on here have not actually read an in depth preview of the game?
Survival
Space combat
Trading
Upgrading your equipment and ship through crafting and or purchasing
Bounty hunter (details not supplied on this one yet)
Exploring are you aware that only 1 in 10 planets will have life, so you will not be seeing the same thing constantly,
There is a back round lore to the game to discover along with blue prints etc.
There are factions that will be having massive space battles you can join.
Pirates that may jump you at any time or you can become a pirate and steal loot and fight the police etc.

But hey there is nothing to do in the game.

Yep, people are going to be so bored of this game after they've visited just a few planets. This game better have an unskippable 2 hour long intro otherwise there are going to be a lot of refunds :)

I love exploring beautifull worlds. That's what attracts me the most to open world games like Skyrim, Far Cry, etc. Or games like Subnautica, The Forest etc. For me, NMS is a dream come true. Sure, I might get bored eventually and take a break, but I will always return to explore some more.
