Tactically, I dig a hole/tunnel with a kink at the end. Shoot just the thing you need, then run in the hole and hide.
Neutron cannon works, but get upgrades for it (you get 2 S-class as a reward IIRC). It's worth a little grind to be able to 2-shot or 3-shot the pests. And it's funny when you shoot an animal with it and it flies off in the air.
I think you either start with that heart or get it as a reward in Phase 1.
Early on, I tend to try to take the battle to a building POI where I can get up and avoid their jump attacks.
I did this for the current expedition FWIW, not incredibly tooled up from level 3 of a comms tower. IF you pick off some of the drops your shields should pick up a recharge often enough.
Pick up a gravtino ball to provoke a response. Shoot at the incoming sentinels and run for the tower, get AT LEAST two levels up then keep killing until the large spiders (which drop hearts) appear. (Don't fall off, falling off is bad)
Neutron cannon is the good weapon for this.
On dissonant planets, Ancient Ruins (the temple/building kind, not the buried kind) are good for this. Only problem I've had with a set-up like that is that on rare occasions a small quad can somehow get INSIDE the foundation level of the temple. Then the wave won't time out. You have to go down and either tempt it out, or dig a trough under the foundation to allow it out. So you can kill it.
If you find an appropriate building, you can usually use the Analysis Visor to find a patrolling Sentinel close enough for you to shoot and open the party.
Alternatively, you could BUILD yourself a basic multi-story building / hunting blind. Be sure to include a small room on the top floor where you can duck out of the LOF, maybe let the later waves Deactivate.
And because I don't materially have time to grind 20 hours in 5 days for decent weapons on a save that I'm going to delete anyway, I guess it will be the second time I don't complete this expedition.
I've actually managed to kill the 5 floaty drones using the bolt caster (it took ages and I missed, panicked and ran a lot) so If I can do it anyone can. As for the bigger stuff, well they kill me quick. The reason I posted is I was standing at the anomaly vendor, like a kid in a sweet shop wondering what to buy.
I use a similar tactic, but with the Cloaking Device. There's one as a reward from one of the earlier milestones, or the multitool you get from the Korvax Monument has one built into its unique mining laser replacement.
Kill the quad, then hold right-click 'til they stop looking for you; no foxhole required.
I've been able to conclude the expedition now.
