online or offline?
hello again ;)

I've been playing this as online from the start but i only see people when i'm at that ball shaped thing, nexus? so, people just run and jump around like brainless entities (a real traveller should be like that? :?) they say meaningless things and get in your way etc..

anyways.. what if i turn my online mode off? what will I miss exactly..

I'm on xbox btw.

And another question, I jumped to many systems and it keeps increasing, so do my teleport list.. I saw "Hide this system" in menu, i've hidden some systems but their space stations are still on my teleport list..

what will i do, how will i organize those systems after a while (it's even getting harder now) there are counsless planets out there..

any way to remove/hide unnecessary space stations from my teleport list?

wrong, nexus is the onlike mission terminal., the big ball thing is "Anomaly"

ad turnig it off will just put you into offlie mode,.

Offline mode will make it so that there are no players in the anomaly when you visit it. There are a few other places where you actually want to be offline, like ship or MT hunting, in offline mode you don't have to worry that someone beat you to a tasty item. Hiding systems in that discovery list will not hide them in the teleport list, I know of no way to limit that list other than the sort options it offers.
There is really 2 ways to get rid of other players; turn off your internet (offline mode), or go into the game settings and into network. You will see an option to turn multiplayer off.

Pros and cons of "offline" mode:

Pro: you will not encounter other players in the game, or their bases.

Con: This is only able to be done with your internet connection disabled, and once you log back in "online" mode, every place that you have gone, if it was discovered by someone else, will show on your list of discovered systems.

Pros and cons of Multiplayer disabled:

Pros: You will not see other players anywhere. You will know if a system has been discovered by another player.

Con: You will still see player bases on planets, and in your teleport list.

I prefer playing with multiplayer off, so that I know if I am in a system discovered by someone else (those systems are easy to hide in your discoveries as you apparently already know).

There is no way to remove a station you have visited aside from letting it fall off of the list of stations. One of the rules I have, if a system is discovered already, I don't land on the station. That prevents it from ever ending up on my station list.

Alright, I think you can play a save both online and offline, and it makes no permanent effects on the save. I'll play a bit offline then, thanks.

I have had several new games and saves for each. I played the first new game with Multi-player and everything that was active set by the game without changing any. I played Online. Second new game, started with the Internet connection Off. Without switching Steam to offline. In that way Offline means, completely offline and uneffected by any other players in a previous play through. Shutting out anyone and anything from the start of the game; that could have bled over from a game started in Online mode with other players active too.

Lastly I started a new game which was online, with multi-player setup, with text chat and other functions. Later I played it Offline for awhile. I built a base or two and when I went to the Online mode again I found one of my bases had another base built so close to the bases computers I could stand by mine and see theirs 50 units away.

If you want a clean planet to play and build on? Do that without playing Online and you will always find a place you can build. If you go Online with that save game it will be loaded with other players planets who discovered them first, even planets you discovered while Offline will no longer be your discoveries. Any spaces with your bases and other sites occasionally will have planet flora and minerals filling in your buildings because of many bases there were there prior to yours.

I usually play games in Steam Offline mode 99% of the time (I'm a SP game kind of person) but I've played this one in Online mode - but with MP off - largely because it sounded like base area claims could be important if you ever did want to take that save MP for some reason.

Even if there's only a .001 chance I would do that, I didn't want it to be a possible future issue.

Finding a "busy" system where the sky and planets is littered with other people's base/beacon icons is annoying to me, since I like SP and *want* the sensation of isolation, but there's still tons of huge swaths of nothing but empty systems instead. Haven't seen anything like that in ages. Just stay/get off the beaten path (galaxy centers, certain side quest planet areas when they happen, sometimes too close to your starter system). Do that and you'll soon feel like you're totally alone forever.

It was an interesting read @CatPerson ;) you seem like to have some obsessions, well i might have some too but i usually like to be more social in general.

I played on minecraft servers too long for several years in the past, that remainded me minecraft in that manner, sharing the space. I believe there is no option like getting griefed or killed by other players but still from my experiences many players will do their worst to piss you off, like building a wall into your scenery ;) people are just like that.. and i'm used to it.

Still it feels almost impossible to come accross to someone in an endless universe. Maybe in starting positions, where everyone is 400k units away to the.. hmm.. center of universe?

My question was more likely to be about game features, wanted to know if i would be locked out from any content, like achievements quests and the like, when i play offline.

Because i found it somehow useles to meet bunch of braindead person (no offence but they act like that) holed up in a place. It's like kindergarden. And game slowsdown and lags everytime i go there..

I still wanna play 'with' people, I like co-op when it was designed with some protecting options. I'm not exactly sure how MP is implemented in NMS but i got some ideas in this forum thread here and now.

I had heard some controversies about game being promised but released without online features. then they must have 'put it there' just to put it there ;)

that said, i still have lot to learn how it works, how game behaves when someone takes my stuff, because they are like ghosts, they are there but sometimes they are not, what happens if i build a base at a coordinate and another player did the same in offline and when we both go online? do they overlap?

You can switch network options to offline mode whenever and return to online whenever too.

I often witch to offline when questing alone at the anomaly, right before entering it, then switch back to online after landing.... this prevent the landing bug from happening.

Biggest difference, beside not seeing ther players, is that you can pause the game in offline mode while in online mode, when you open the "esc" menu (the one where you got recipes, discveries, etc...), the game isnt paused and things keep going while you're in that menu.

I'm not sure I'd call preferring SP games an obsession, just used to the control of SP I guess, but tis true I'm not game-social. I just like to lose myself in a game, not make it a social (or competitive) thing. Only person I MP with is my husband, while under the same roof. :D

I used to do stuff like play WoW or Diablo2/closed bnet, mostly by myself/solo but occasionally with a few online friends, but that was many moons ago when I was a lot younger, and these days I just stick to SP games.
