VR menu navigation, no button assigned?
hello, i just got myself a vr, managed to fix the lagging issues, but now i enter no man's sky, it show me menu, and i can't do anything, becuse it says press "yellow exclamation mark" to select. As if no button was asigned to that. What can i do?

Edit: after some investigation, the issue is that steam vr is stuck on infinite loading of this one app's button laytout. So when i go into controller settings, i can look at the button configuration for all other apps, except for No Man's Sky. No Man's Sky is stuck on "custom" setting, and inifite loading of control layout

I have meta quest 2

After some more digging, i figured out that for some reason steam can't load controller configuration for No Man's Sky and ONLY for No Man's Sky, all other apps like Superhot are just set to default controlls, and No Man's Sky is infinitely loading some controller configuration that doesn't exist

maybe this will work? idk as i don't have VR but it certainly works for xbox and PS controllers... oh, it may also need Steam Input enabled... i must use that on my linux install because the native controller support cannot find my controller otherwise...
anyway, here's the process i generally post to use when controllers are not working properly...
NOTE: this is written with xbox controllers in mind... if you use something else, look at the UI for the proper buttons to hit where a "face button" is specified...

  1. load into the game
  2. open Options on the first screen OR go to the Options tab in-game
  3. select Controls
  4. at the top select Remap Controls
  5. bottom left Configure Gamepad via Steam - this loads the steam controller tool.
if you get a black box here, click the Maximize button and then you can hit the Restore button to return to a window.
  6. at the top, where it says Current Layout, click the selector below (just above the View Layout and Edit Layout options)
  7. select the Recommended tab at the top
  8. select the proper Official Configuration for No Man's Sky that matches your controller
  9. hit the A face button to select that config
  10. hit the X face button to apply that config
  11. hit the B face button for done and to back out - this returns you to the game
  12. now your controller should be using the latest layout template and everything should be operational again.

I can't go to anything in game, it's in vr mode so it doesn't accept mouse inputs as far as I tried, so Im stuck on first screen, can only fling cursor around.

ouch! i'm out of ideas... sorry...

EDIT: actually, while looking for something else, i found this article on HG's zendesk... maybe it helps? it is not done from within the game... it is done directly from steam without the game running at all...
https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003976558-Controller-input-not-working-correctly-Steam-
if that doesn't help, i would certainly consider to file an issue ticket with them on that site... be sure to use a valid email address so you can update the ticket or respond to them if they request any additional info from you...

I have VR. All menus after entering the game are operated by pointing at your left hand.

1. Press a button on the VR Controller to enter the options menu - (Y on Rift S).
2. You can press next to your head (left hand-side) to activate scanner.
3. Press down on left controller stick to scan planets and area.
4. Grip over right hand shoulder to use tool gun.
5. Left stick moves or teleports.
6. Point at right hand to change tool mode.
7. Right trigger selects from menu or fires weapons.
8. Grip key navigates through menus in game.

Good luck. It takes a little getting used to, but becomes second nature really quick.
