I agree there ought to be more rewards for having a positive reputation, but I could think of more useful things than politeness.
(Remember, it's a game. They are 'supposed' to be that way. They are supposed to be jerks and judgemental unless you go around kicking the arse of every one you see [because that's the only way they will respect you] - but the game doesn't allow you to do that - and again, it's not realistic for Vykeen Worker #56729 on Planet Faraway to automatically know you have killed billions of Sentinels and have done so many quests you co-own the Faction now. It just won't happen, IRL or in the game lol Relax and have fun man) HTH
There are several encounters with options where your rank will make them respectful, the options only being available at certain ranks.
There are also encounters where you can be violent back to them to earn their respect (usually resulting in getting hurt yourself).
Maybe you could teach them a few bars of Kumbaya.
