Edit.
... and so I did. This also fulfills the "Travel By Portal" milestone. So... two birds, one stone.
It's this guy:

As a general rule for finding all fauna on a planet - scan everything. The general rule of thumb was the more things (flora, minerals, fauna) that have been scanned on a planet, the more likely rare fauna generate. I don't know if it's been debunked, but it sure works for me.
In my experience, it takes a bit (about 2 minutes or so) for the predator large fish to show up and start feasting on the smaller fish. So, I guess that is another tip, never seen them spawn in if there no other fish in the area- so stick around where the fish are.
Thanks for that!! I just went back to that planet and found it near a base that someone set up. A very helpful person has a base there with plants and some activated copper
So what I'm hearing here is that it's not the giant worm I've spent a day trying and failing to scan?
