Really hard time with Sentinel Quads
Hi there.

Over time I found out that I can deal with most sentinels fairly easily using my Boltcaster. I kill the summoners and repairers first, then I go for the armored drones, done. I hide in the ground using the terrain manipulator to recharge shields between firefights.

Even the Sentinel walkers and battle mech are relatively OK to deal with while hiding underground. I just hit and run underground, hit and run underground, once there are no repair drones available anymore, I can eventually wear them down and kill them.

However, the Sentinel Quads are a real nightmare. They are very complementary to other with their hand to hand attack and get invisible. They deal damage to me even from above ground when I hide using the terrain manipulator. The advice on the wiki page is to attack them from above and behind but I never manage to get around them and every time I get a dominant position, other drones attack me, or even the Quad's laser.

I managed to kill one once but it was alone after I killed all others and used hit and run tactics but it was very long and I had to wear him down. This time I had to zig zag to avoid attacks while doing hit and run in the open, only occasionally going underground, then attacking again, and running to another place, digging a hole again and so on. In addition I end up attacked by animals on the planet because of stray bullets.

Any advice on how to deal with the Quads?

Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Théophile.

Not sure if it works anymore, but the grenades were the simple and quick answer to them in the past. (not the ones that make holes- they just introduce more problems)

I am assuming you mean the sentinel dogs. HG has changed so much up I just avoid fighting unless it is required for some purpose.

Build and upgrade a Neutron Canon. It deals massive damage in one shot plus some splash damage.

In general, don't engage Sentinels unless you have well upgraded weapons and enjoy fighting them or need some resource, like a Walker Brain. It's pointless otherwise.

Jumin' jesus I'd advise against that... unless you're after the "Died from being stupid" title :steamsalty:

Edit: to be clear... I already have that title... so, um, yeah

Hi Théophile
If a single enemy is annoying, just stun them with a Paralysis Mortar. It does not even require advanced materials to craft one. Of course, it helps to have decent DPS on your tool, but I think you will do just fine, once you learn how to pin them down :)
Happy hunting

I have to try the Paralysis Mortar. I've never used it, not even once :)

It makes any sentinel fight a walkover - especially if you have the Voltaic Amplifier as well (increases damage to stunned enemies by up to 50% if it's in a supercharge slot).

Awesome. Why did I never try it???
Thanks :steamhappy:

I just tried the Paralysis Mortar on some Monstrosities. Hysterical! It has quite the splash so you can freeze few of them at once. They keep shaking their heads, but they can't move. You just picked them off easily.

Gonna find me some Sentinels for continuing experimentation :)

Edit: Sentinel results just as entertaining :) It freezes the Quads and I think de-cloaks them too.

Honestly I generally just go with the pulse splitter + S class upgrades and separate clip upgrade, and I rip through them fairly easily... And if you put the fire damage upgrade on there as well you can see the numbers keep ticking when they're invisible.

Though I generally avoid fighting sentinels past the basic flying drone types until I have some S-class health/shield and weapon upgrades.

It works on monstrosities too!?! Thought it was just sentinels. We've both learnt something today

You've gotta try it on Monstrosities :) Yes, after 1500 hours!

I can deal with the quads beam weapons, but my slow reflexes leave me a bit vulnerable to their "leaping" attacks.

To counter the latter attack mode: I'll only voluntarily engage them when I'm able to get above them, out of the reach of their leaping ability: like on the roof of a building, top of a ship, etc., so they're not a significant threat to me.

As for weapons: paralysis mortar followed by blaster; rinse & repeat as needed.

I use the Pulse Spitter as my weapon mode and also have the Plasma Launcher as a secondary fire for sentinel battles (both of these have all their related upgrades at S-Class or what the maximum is for the blueprint versions), these weapons cut through every type when being constantly moving around to dodge incoming attacks

With a good multi-tool ("A" or "S" class); Sentinel or Staff have the highest damage potential and pair that with 3 or 4 supercharged slots aligned for your weapon of choice (it's the Neutron Cannon, right?)

With that you can take out groups of 2 to 4 flying sentinels with one shot rendering the Paralysis Mortar unnecessary OR you could use it as a time-out so you can set off like 3 or 4 emotes while the Sentinel's dance the paralysis jig™

Stun with paralysis mortar and be sure and have voltaic amplifier on bar. Those two are your best buddies. Be sure and have a full stack of the repair item and know how to use your X menu to refill or you are screwed. It runs out and you either have to use the X menu to refill or go find someplace to hide while you open menu and fart around with it (bad choice).

The stun helps with all the sentinel enemies and makes everything very easy once you understand how it works and can use it effectively. Practice on easy stuff first.
Depending on your tool, might put the amplifier in a superslot to lengthen stun time even more.

If you are early game don't get too excited about not having all the top equipment yet. You can kill anything with a B gun, just not as fast. Boltcaster is fine, start looking for the upgrades and know that the most important option is RATE OF FIRE. 19% x 3 is good, but to really understand weapons in this game go watch a couple Utubers wax on about it. At first it may not make much sense but at some point you will get it. It is a fairly complex mini game.

I would not use grenades for reasons noted above unless you want the stupid title, which is good to do on purpose so you can see how easily you will kill yourself. LOL
