Cartographer - How do you chart Waypoints?

I'm amazed how some players can finish this expedition within a few hours. I'm constantly stuck, and confounded.
Here's the latest one: Game wants me to chart 4 waypoints.
What does that even mean? How do I go about it? Do I need planetary charts for this? If so, I already used mine up (with not much results to them) and new ones can't be bought at the trade station I found.

Any time you find an alien base or shelter or whatever, there should be like an antenna somewhere next to it - just go up to it and use it, and it acts as a save point and gives you some nav data. You don't need to use charts, just run around a bit, pull up your scanner and look for any nearby buildings, or use the exocraft scanner to locate outposts/etc.

Ah, okay. So just like in a "regular" game.

Just don't do that one until you have an exocraft or your ship is repaired. You can do the missions in any order.

No need to feel this way. Many people simply played this game for hundreds or thousands of hours, including all previous expeditions, so they're intimately familiar withe game mechanics so they can speedrun through these expeditions. There is nothing wrong with taking your time, being slow, getting stuck. Don't let this discourage you. This is a game about solving problems.
