Once you get over the eye candy effect, at least for me, it boils down to how much crap did they bring back when I debrief them.
The main advantage of pirate over combat frigates for now is that they leave you alone when you get attacked....
What would be cool is if pirate frigates did something similar to combat ones.... But come to your help only when you're fighting a capital ship or a freighter and instead of launching fighters around like combat frigates they'd make use of their massive anti-freighter torpedoes against ennemy capital ships (them having some point defense AA/AS guns wouldnt hurt either.... how ridiculous is it that a frigate designed for combat has zero anti-starship weapon ?).
If you keep your freighter in the same star system frigate expeditions will repete. They will have the same encounters with the same loot. I have seen this while farming living ship storage increase sacs.
You could note the loot then wait for the mission to recycle. I doubt it would make a difference.
