Comparing Combat frigates with Pirate frigates
When I recruited my first Pirate frigate, I noticed that it was strongest in combat characteristics, so I thought it would be good to compare them to the existing Combat frigates.

The following combination of two screen shots (one from each save) shows four frigates from the frigate fleet: two Combat and two Pirate. You can see that the strength points are similar for these Combat and Pirate frigates.

Interesting. At first I thought they would likely be more powerful, or have some other trait not available standard frigates, but I was starting to have my doubts. Your information seems to confirm that, other than their appearance, they're all pretty much the same, after all.
The pirate frigates have those torpedoes that they use in the pirate freighter battles. You can see them if you teleport over to them, but I don't know if you can do anything with them.

It would be interesting to see if that has any impact on mission debrief spoils. Essentially, most of the frigates game play loop is eye candy overlaying a text based mini game when you send out/debrief missions.

Once you get over the eye candy effect, at least for me, it boils down to how much crap did they bring back when I debrief them.

From what I've read, it would be impossible to prove. You would have to send out your fleet and wait for the mission to complete. Make note of every single loot item. Roll back your game to before you sent the fleet on the mission and then do the exact same mission again with different ships and then compare. More trouble than it's worth for the junk we receive.
I was wondering about that myself. I may run a few combat missions with the combat + support ships, then run a few with the pirate + support ships to see if there is any difference in the resources returned.

True this, i wish there was a bit more in depth mechanic

So do I! Now that I have thought about some more, I'm willing to bet that even if you repeated the exact same mission with the exact same ships you would still get a different outcome....just a different RNG roll.

When fighting ennemy starship in the same system where one of your combat frigate is, it comes to your help, sending fighters.... and those fighters a're as useless as your squad.... they just bug you around and make the combat more difficult than it should be by cutting your shots, bumping into you, etc...

The main advantage of pirate over combat frigates for now is that they leave you alone when you get attacked....

What would be cool is if pirate frigates did something similar to combat ones.... But come to your help only when you're fighting a capital ship or a freighter and instead of launching fighters around like combat frigates they'd make use of their massive anti-freighter torpedoes against ennemy capital ships (them having some point defense AA/AS guns wouldnt hurt either.... how ridiculous is it that a frigate designed for combat has zero anti-starship weapon ?).

It is one of those things that I had been curious about but had passed on verifying. Thanks OP!

If you keep your freighter in the same star system frigate expeditions will repete. They will have the same encounters with the same loot. I have seen this while farming living ship storage increase sacs.

You could note the loot then wait for the mission to recycle. I doubt it would make a difference.
