You can't bind anything to an axis, just buttons. If the developer is nice, sometimes they let you flip the vertical axis so you can play with "inverted controls"... but you're not going to get an axis binding on keyboard and mouse in almost any game.
I say "almost", because I remember some games let us do that "back in the day"... but I've been gaming for 40 years, so there's no telling what game(s) that even was/were.
I cannot use A/D to roll, only mouse. And same for yaw, it's horrible on mouse.
I think you're going to be sorely disappointed with most everything else out there, too... this "problem" is not unique to No Man's Sky.
Just because it's not a space sim, doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to play in a way like it is one. I come from Elite Dangerous an Pitch and Roll on mouse are the most natural form of controls for any kind of spacecraft. It's like HOTAS, forward and backward controls the pitch, tilt left and right controls the roll and turn controls the yaw, except you can't quite rotate mouse along the Y axis to yaw, so that leaves A and D.
EDIT: Basically tho it's just so much more comfortable that way, and not to allow players to play in a comfortable way is just absurd.
but like others already said
they r not
If you need HOTAS functionality, then get a HOTAS setup and bind it however you can. Otherwise, you're barking up the wrong tree... Hello Games doesn't even look at these forums; use the bug reporting form on their ZenDesk.

Play for a week or so... I think you'll start to understand that they don't care. At all.
As a matter of fact, the more I play the more I'm convinced they've introduced certain "bugs" into the game just to troll their most invested players.
but rumours say that they look at these forums, but stay hidden
It seems like every time I mention how riddled with bugs this game is, I discover several new ones over the next few days... resulting in me getting frustrated enough to quit playing.
folko1, I urge you to get a refund immediately if you value your sanity. Get out now, before you get hooked.
