I don't think there is a way to compare stats other than with the scanner. I'm not sure how a comparison type table would work in practice, as ships come and go all the time landing and leaving. Maybe you want to compare your own ships and their core stats with each other? I usually either stand on the staircase in the freighter hangar and simply scan the ships. But at the Anomaly you can cycle through all your 12 ships on a single landing pad very easily. It's not ideal but comparing your own ships and swapping tech about works very well at the Anomaly (it's quite fun) so you do not have to run about in your freighter hangar (which is also fun but takes longer if you have more than 6 ships). It is also possible to screenshot the scanner details if you want too.
Perhaps I am the only one thinking this way, though. If this is true, then it's my bad.
The core damage stat on an explorer type ship can be a low as (30+) and on a fighter up to (330+) which can make a difference. Similar differences between other stats also vary. The class of the ship is probably the first important factor to determine a comparison between ships and followed by the core stats. Exotic ships are more balanced in all core stats compared to different types of ships and explorers have far greater hyper-drive jump distance core stats. Now there are living ships, solar ships and sentinel ships too, with their own advantages and disadvantages and all ship types come in different sizes.
But I agree most players would like a good looking ship. That's where the fun begins as you might find that before finding the best stats for it and so the very expensive process of upgrading or searching begins. : D
In the image you showed, you current ship has slightly higher core damage potential, slightly higher core shield strength, much better core hyperdrive range, and roughly the same core maneuverability as compared to the new ship.
Of course, some of that is due to having more stuff installed (ie, damage potential is skewed because your ship has rockets and a phase beam and the new ship does not)... the white/yellow line under the stat labels shows you the core/modified stats.
Of course, if that information is a non-linear percentage... I dunno. I'm just pointing out the stuff i see.
Edited to add: and all that stuff is really just a drop in the bucket when compared to a maxed-out upgraded ship; is 5 firepower really worth quibbling over?
