Do I lose my game when I die in a nexus mission?
I see that when accepting a mission, it tells me that the game progress is not saved, but the mission progress is. I am in permanent death and I would not want to commit suicide for a poorly done mission :winter2019sadsnowman:

Not sure, but you are probably wise to question the outcome. I only did PD to get the achievement. The game is too flaky and sooner or later, you will die by glitch if not for any other reason.

Your best defense is to regularly back up your save and restore if you believe it was a game glitch and not your error.

Personally, I like the custom save option where you can adjust the challenge and not have to worry about losing your save (for whatever reason) if you plan to use it as a forever save. I guess some folks "appreciate" the finality of losing everything, but just a game to me.

No, it's not permadeath or anything like that. You will just respawn earlier, before you started the mission, i.e. you will lose the mission progress. I died during Nexus missions, I don't remember exactly (it was few months) if I respawned at the Anomaly or in space but it was nothing traumatic at all :)

In permadeath, a death is truly permanent whether in the normal game or during a Nexus mission.

I had some unused PD data to try.
When I froze to death on an extremely cold planet, the game crashed after displaying the profound poem as an example (LOL).
The PD data had disappeared from the save data list. (LOL&LOL)

Oh yeah, that's a given: if you play permadeath then any death is "perma", Nexus or whatever and your save is deleted :) I'm assuming the OP is not playing permadeath and was just concerned with that "progress is not saved" message.

You can manually back up permadeath games on your disk drive, (ie. go outside the game), but you'll lose all progress back to that point if you have to reload hours or days after backing up the game.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. The best thing would be to make a backup outside of the game, I suppose. Since there are things that were not included in previous updates (The Voice of Liberty for example; they almost killed me in the ambush)
Again, thank you all. Good to know there is a backup option :lunar2019piginablanket:
