Why should the game change? There are plenty of games out there. Do those games when you need a fix.
The starships in NMS are specified in classes, so I'd understand when aspects of starship customization are limited in that point of view (like custom parts for starships). Though I'm mingling with the idea that one should at least be given the option to re-color their ships.
Fine, but following this reasoning, why are we able to change the colors of the freighter ?
I get that ship customization is difficult and maybe not in the logic of the game or whatever, but I think that the last reason why we have not it is not because this suppose time percentage...
There's an obvious, careful balance NMS is trying to achieve that has nothing to do with end user experience. It's a business scheme.
I would think this is a possibility myself, lets face it, it is a business, i think this is the exact reason why we can play any expedition of our choosing that has already been created and also why the quicksilver mechanisms are in place the way they are. simply to keep engagement up, now coloring ships id love to have, but i can accept that its just a company and nothing more only under one condition, that they fix bugs in a timely manner, for the most part this is true.
I am honestly surprised they havent curbed the save editor, i mean i know its not PVP but anybody that knows how to click install on a game here has the skills to set their quicksilver to 4 billion and unlock all the goodies they missed if they are new players. i like that its there, it helps us fix bugs, and skip things we dont like, i assume possible community backlash probably keeps them from changing saving mechanisms, that and they dont want reports of everything that bugs out that the save editor could easily fix
1. They can't.
2. They believe ship hunting and coordinate sharing is a core game mechanic.
3. They want as much if the game to be procedurally generated as possible. "Everything procedure"
After the NEXT update dropped in ~2018 data miners found incomplete code and assets for a ship repaint shop. This was latter removed then repurposed into the upgrade station. Either it didn't work right or they scrapped the idea.
Personally I would like a repaint and decal shop, but I don't believe it will happen.
god forbid people dont wanna sit in a space station for 40 hours of their 41 hour playtime just trying to get a ship that doesnt look like garbage and is only tolerable to look at.
but hey, it aint a perfect fix, but theres always the nms ship builder. still, it would be nice if we could customise and tweek the things we own to our own liking.
Fun fact HGs has made giant piles of money from this game already already.

But this is ridiculous, just a lack of creativity.
It is perfectly possible to maintain ship hunting along with customization. Imagine the following: We are not free to customize ships as we want, but we can use parts of ships that we have already found.
Like if I found two ships of the same category, then I could disassemble them and keep the parts I want, and then combine those parts. Combining the wings of a ship I found, with the body of another, with the tail of another, etc. Being free to repaint it in a workshop, paying for it, and perhaps using ores or rare materials to create paints of a specific color.
I'm not disagreeing with you. I am just starting what appears to be HGs thinking.
Personally I think a repaint shop is a reasonable compromise. Finding a ship with a particular combination of parts isn't that hard. Finding that combination in a, particular color combination is significantly harder.
If you use some of the coordinate sharing sights you can almost any combination of parts and colors you could want.
But that actually makes looking for the exact ship you want somewhat interesting, if tedious and random. Your ideal ship is out there, somewhere, among the trillions and trillions of star systems. To find your ideal ship in fact, could even take a lifetime, real time.
No real effort required since you can basically give yourself any ship you want of any color that has spawned in the game using its codes on the save editor.
I think you can even repaint them already but only visible to you (with a mod)
Maybe one day
