Extend base size
Is it possible to expand the size of the base and if so how? I've seen videos from 2021/2022 where you could do that by placing objects on the edge, but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

To build beyond the 300u limit, you only need to place an object there, for example a wall, then the limit is extended by 50u there.

But there is a bug in the game, that the border gets locked, so you can't do the expansion.

That bug usually happens when you teleport to the base, but it's easy to fix, you save the game in the base, and do a reload, after that it's no problem to expand the border..

That should still work. I don't know why it wouldn't.
Then I must be doing something wrong, even though I did it exactly as shown in the video. And according to the comments, I don't seem to be the only one with this problem.

Never encountered that bug. Maybe it was present but I never recognised it.

After a lot of base building, expanding a claimed base area usually begins when wanting to reach an electrical power hot spot, often over 500u to 1000u distance from the base computer. Mark the hot spot with a coloured save beacon or something, then return to the base first and walk towards the surveyed marker, dropping batteries or electric power poles. Then join them all with wiring and optionally remove the temporary batteries or poles to have more parts to build with.

I noticed it has been a bit janky lately when I was setting up electricity for a base that was quite far away. Closing game and restarting fixed it for me. It's a big old game, lots can go sideways.

I just drop little white lights along the way as markers or stick them on the sides of rocks or plants since I will eventually make the lines invisible.

Nice idea : ) That can make things easier to spot when night time arrives or bad weather. I often bury my power lines and connecting parts and use the little orange self lighting mining lamp decoration part, marking the general line of direction and reminding me where to dig. They can be scaled too.

During the expedition it was useful to mark the path underwater with the huge electric power towers as I needed to dig down to a cave base several times to hit the connections. and they stood above the rocky floor. With hindsight (with very little sight at that depth : ) I could have maybe added some orange lamps to the tops to spot them easier when connecting wires.

I prefer to not use the towers to mark paths as they can take time to render on my weak PC. So later swap the to something else once everything is in place.
