The conclusion we came to was that they were literally in exactly the same spot, with the same rotation, etc... because neither of us had moved it when starting the game; perhaps that was the core of the issue?
After moving to a new system, I moved my freighter to it... and the issue was resolved.
All of that being said, I also seem to recall some discussion of players no longer warping along with their group's chosen capital ship like they used to, but instead being left behind (and if not inside their ship, suffocating in the vacuum of space shortly thereafter).
Not sure if either of those is related, but it's something to consider.
If more than one are in a system will it make so you can only go on yours?
Issues range from desync problems, i.e., if one of us joins another's game, usually only for combat in rare situations because there have been times when only one of us could see the mobs, then would have to tell the blind person where to shoot. It's usually easier to solo it, unless the combat situation involved could only be found rarely and gave a reward that we both needed.
It's also used to be useful sharing each other's base locations so we can access a location that is useful, such as a base located at a portal or curious deposits, or just sharing the proceeds from our automatic harvesters and plant farms. They now get over-written in Expedition 11 by the game preferring to show someone's first base instead of showing you a base you've frequently visited or even other people have frequently visited. I'd prefer the game to show me bases that belong to my friends that I've visited instead. Although none of them play NMS anymore except my husband and I.
Either only showing bases you've visited or other people have visited would be preferable.
As it is now in Expedition 11, I have to log out at my husband's curious deposit base to be able to access it again, which I have visited quite often. He only logs in now because I can't find it in single player without joining his game. In return, I'm locating planets that have critter milestones that satisfy Exp.11's objectives.
So the only time we play multiplayer anymore is to share a location which has an S class multitool or something. Then we have go to single player mode so that both of us can obtain it.
In single player mode, obviously there can be numerous capital ships in a system.
In multiplayer mode, there can be only one, that I can remember. Which isn't at all reliable. But if one you moves your freighter out of the system and it works, the problem should be resolved?
It is one player capital ship per system.
if that is the only one everyone can land on it. The moment there are 2 the they become invisible to all but the owner.
Cool, another old person :)
But I didn't know you could dismiss your freighter, although I'd rather just move it instead.
yeah 'dismiss freighter' was introduced for this specific issue of MP and multiple freighters in the same system which tends to be highlighted spectacularly during expeditions where we all start on a freighter in the same system Lol
But we've lived through the best of times. I've only been to two rock concerts, Deep Purple in Germany then Eric Clapton back in the US.
I remember the day that John F. Kennedy died, when I was in elementary school.
I remember the moon landing, and being surprised, because as a kid, I was so immersed in science fiction.
I saw 2001, Alien, Star Wars, Rollerball, and Bladerunner, in theaters, all at release. Back then, the most poignant scenes even when I was young were:

Today is a good day to die.
For anyone who might think I'm suicidal, I am not. It's an idiom.
If anyone doesn't know it, see, for example: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/today_is_a_good_day_to_die#:~:text=day%20to%20die-,Proverb,regrets%2C%20or%20tasks%20left%20undone.
Well played, adventurer! That was the same year I started programming, and I'm now retired. I salute your perseverance!
you still have to dismiss yours if you want to land on their's, though... and same for the other way around...
you dismiss, they call, you land and visit on their freighter...
or
they dismiss, you call, they land and visit on your freighter...
