Auto Sorting
This game has a lot of potential, amazing game but with all the materials we have accumulated, we need to have an AUTO SORT. Heck I am even willing to put mod on this game just for auto sorting. So please fix it

There is nothing to "fix" . But there are indeed room for quality of life improvements. Some mods are really good, though I only use two kind of mods : Making the game even prettier and making it even harder. Some are awesome, if you have self control, go mods all the way.

Auto sort would mean very different things to different players. How exactly do you envision this feature?

Would it cross inventories (Suit, Ship, Exocraft, Freighter, Containers)?

Alpha-numeric on name or by resource/artifact type?

FYI, you can currently name your containers and put things away in any order you want.
For years, I have used:
0=plants
1=odds and ends
2=metals
3=Nutrition
4=Overflow- temp storage
5= Crafting items
6= Gases
7= Crafting rocks
8= Water stuff
9= Never used

I always keep Di-Hy in the freighter inventory (to make fuel)
Tritium on my Ship
Basic resources that are easy to find and used a lot in my suit inventory

I never had trouble finding anything, but I keep a tight ship.

How exactly will things be sorted? Will things like oxygen and sodium go to the top of your inventory? What comes second? Building components? Flora or fauna products? Maybe ammo and plasma granades? Metals should come 3rd. Tech upgrades should be 4th. No wait, those should come before building components. Those vykeen daggers should come last, right after metal plates. See what I'm getting at? Maybe the dev who programs the sorting feature should just make it sort the way he thinks is best.... No matter how it sorts some will love it and some will hate it. I'd be happy if the inventory would just open to the same place each time.

I don't agree that an implementation of sorting has to be something some will love and some will hate. Take a modern RPG's inventory sorting mechanism. You can choose how to sort your items by: data added, type, value, name, etc. A thoughtful sorting mechanism could be a a useful QoL addition. Players that don't want to sort, wouldn't have to.
I do agree that enforced auto-sorting would not be a good idea.

Automatically no, but sorting of somekind yes. Just let us choose the order.

when i place things in my inventory or storage bins, i place similar things together and group recipe things together... like having Ferrite Dust and Cobalt together and their product, Ion Batteries, beside them...

if you do this (have both Ferrite Dust and Cobalt together) in a storage bin, you can build Ion Batteries in that storage bin... if you do not have all needed recipe ingredients in the same storage bin, you have to build in suit/ship/exocraft/freighter inventory and then move the end product to the desired storage bin...

sorting has the potential to mess this up or at least break the visual representation of the recipes and their products... we have enough complaints about automatic mission selection based on triggers (aka the well known "NMS keeps changing my mission" ""defect"")... (auto)sorting inventory could bring more of that type of complaint... yeah, no thanks...

Agreed. I like the idea of a "autosort button" for each container, but I have my own system after years of manual sort. I expect that any sorting function HG comes up with will be nothing more than an arbitrary, facepalm result that will never be used more than once by players with more than 50hrs in game.
The game now automatically stacks materials to the same stacks, when you transfer stuff to inventories using menus. For example install the matter beam on your freighter and its easy access to storage wherever your freighter is. Arrange things how you like and then you never have to think where things go. Hop into your freighter base and transfer stuff from suit or ship automatically to your storage crates AND even your food inventory if you have the cooking object built. The game finds the same materials and stacks them without the need to drag and drop.

On the ground if you are close to exocars keep all the cars close by and you simply transfer stuff back and forth to them using the menus too.

You can also now filter items using the tabs on the ship and suit inventories which is great.

Arguably using a controller the auto stacking and transfer items is more intuitive than keyboard. However the mouse can be accurate for placing items in empty slots and quickly shuffling things around. I prefer the controller its just simpler and when you learn and know the shortcut keys commands (all info for button commands are displayed in every pop up menu) Like for example double tap the triangle and items go from suit to ship instantly. Or from the ship back to the suit. No need to drag and drop or click and open another inventory. X usually splits stacks halving each time.

It shouldn't be much harder to implement a choice of sort methods than to just implement one.

Personally, I don't care what method it is, just so long as it's predictable.
