New player and struggling.
Started first game a couple of hours ago. Managed to muddle through…

…until I arrived at the buildings to get the hermetic seal.

Game tells me to use scanner to return to my ship. Scanner's broken.

So I head back the direction I came, and soon realized I had no idea where I was.

Checked for landmarks. Realized the things I consider landmarks (large rocks at top of hills) all look pretty much alike.

It occurred to me maybe I could craft the nanotube needed to fix the scanner.

I need a blueprint, which as a new player I don't have.

So here I am asking for help.

Would it be better to just start a new game? I could spend years searching for my ship which is an idea I'm not fond of.

Thanks in advance.

The direction to your ship should be shown on your compass. The symbol is black and white and shows a spaceship.

It is impossible to orientate yourself on a planet by the landscape

the tutorial isn't a suggestion, if you do wot you're told to do, when you told to do it ...it works out fine.
for your situation, all you need to do is install the analysis visor (you were told to do this) and your ship marker will appear on your hud (there is also a compass at the top of the screen and the marker is also on it)
EDIT: sorry, post wasn't meant to sound harsh, the tutorial tells you wot to do, WHEN you need to do it, so if you read the hints, tips (bottom right main screen) and the log and discoveries entries as and when either directed to or when you need to ...you can't/won't get stuck or lost

I would only restart the game if I knew what I did wrong. If you don't know how to find the starship using the compass (same area as the N/S indicators) then restarting wont help.

You should have the blueprint for the carbon nanotubes. It is one of the known bp (like metal plating). Then you can repair your scanner and locate your ship. The bp may be shaded grey if you don't have enough carbon in your inventory. If you really don't have the bp, you should restart as that is a glitch.

Nanotube is one of the default starting blueprints.
Click in an empty slot in your inventory to bring up the crafting menu, you will need some Carbon to craft it.
After that, your ship should show up on your HUD, and on the compass on top of the screen.

You dont need a blueprint for nanotubes...

When you try to use your broken scanner that should give you a quest telling you how to fix it because that's an extremely important first requirement (to find sodium for example).

To find your ship it's the visor that you need. You need to search around with your visor up (once you crafted it on your MT) and marl it by holding the action button while keeping it in your crosshair (a tooltip telling you which button to hold should appear).

Open your quest log and check all the quest available, do the minor quests first they will help you advance the main quests.
I'd also recommand cheking how to build techs on your MT and exosuit, so you'll see what you can get on them immediately.

Actually, you do need nanotubes. That is how you craft the visor. Yes, scanner v visor may have been confused by op and myself. Nonetheless, op already repaired scanner with ferrite and is now looking for a way to construct visor. They could not find nanotube bp in their inventory, and we are providing clues as to how to find it and access it.

I say start over, do Creative Mode to get familiar without suffering. When you've gotten into a style of play, restart again if you like. No rush to "complete" this game, there is no end.... only Space.
