Does NMS currently run on Linux?
I know it used to work fine. Does it still run after all the updates?

I've been playing it on Debian Sid with Proton Experimental. It ran well before the updates and it still does.

Appears to run somewhat better than on Windows. Which is really really odd.

Playing it now, as others commented generally (across platforms) it may have lost a few FPS but there are no actual playability issues. (2070 plus here)

It runs very well even though I don't play much NMS at the moment my impression is even as mentioned here much better than on Windows.

It's not odd at all. Windows is an inefficient mess.

Code incompatibility is the main issue for Linux. If developers are using Vulkan or targeting Proton specifically, most games will run better on Linux.

Microsoft only maintains its market share through proprietary APIs, that everyone in game development is already using. Not because it makes an actual good product.

i've not had any problems... i'm on kubuntu 20.04...

FWIW: it should be noted that NMS on linux requires either wine or proton... proton comes with steam... NMS is not a native linux program which is why it requires a translation layer like wine or proton...

FWIW2: currently my NMS [experimental] is using Proton 8.0-2...

Graphics glitches went away after I switched out DLSS, tried other AA methods and switched back. No idea why that fixed the black squares I was seeing when I was near a base TP thing but it did. That's the worst problem I've had in years and it was only a minor annoyance.

ProtonDB[www.protondb.com] is a good resource for checking how well games run on Linux through Proton.

In my experience, only a few games I've tried don't run under Linux, and only a few need any special tweaks to run. Most games (and most software) works better under Linux.

Windows is just incredibly bad at system resource management.

I forgot to mention: it used to be the case that it required some tweaking to get multiplayer working on No Man's Sky under Linux. But that was fixed several updates ago; it's no longer necessary, and NMS works "out of the box".
