Noob question about generic missions
Hi all. Just started with NMS and did the tutorial stuff untill I got the hyperdrive. I chosed a mission at the local spacestation from the mission guy. It says that they have some problems getting some carcasses at a planet, and I could help by killing 5 sentinels.
Now, my problem is that I dont know where to go. It does not mention a planet name, and I cant see a mission marker anywhere. I look at the map, and I scan every planet in the system. Its my first mission - what am I missing?
Thanks in advance, and pls dont hesitate to humiliate me if I am missing something obvious 🙂

land on any planet of the system and look for building with sentinel around. When mission will have a specific location, you'll have a really big icon showing you where to go.

So it is just any planet in the system? Thank you very much for your answer 🙂

There are three general classes of space station/outlaw missions:
  • Universal: These missions give you a goal, but do not care how you accomplish the goal and can be completed anywhere. These include:
    • Kill animals (even derelict freighter jellyfish and security bots count)
    • Kill predators
    • Feed animals
    • Kill sentinels
    • Kill sentinel quads
  • Targeted: These missions provide an in-system target and must be completed at the targeted location. These include:
    • Repair an item
    • Kill monstrosities
    • Collect material
    • Collect an item
    • Hunt pirates
    • Raid a depot
    • Raid a harvester
    • Unearth a relic
    • Locate a missing person
    • Raid merchants
  • Travel: These require you to travel to a nearby system to complete the mission. These include:
    • Scan flora
    • Scan fauna
    • Scan minerals
    • Photograph a biome
    • Photograph fauna
    • Photograph a point of interest
    • Deliver an item
    • Raid a freighter

If a mission did not specify a location, it's universal and can be completed anywhere.

The game may shift focus on the quests in the log sometimes.
So Check that the mission is marked in your log, if not click it.

If it is a specific building you are ordered to visit, you should get an icon on the planet that will guide you in the right direction.

Often the reference is only approximate, and you have to search a bit, once you have landed on the planet.

scan the planets, iat bottom says with orange letters none agressive sentinels or with red agressive sentinels.
if land in red sentinels they wil lfind you easy
if land in orange sentinels planet just gather plants or kill aninals, they will find you sooner or later.
when you kil lthose that you want, to avoid e the rest, open a big Γ hole in ground with manipulator and wait to release you from searching. unless you are in red sentinels planets and when they see youagain they will try to kill you.

For the missions to kill sentinels, and the missions to kill (or feed) creatures or predators, you can do them anywhere. For the kill 'creatures' ones, even the bogies on derelict freighters count.

I usually stack up about 4 or 5 log book pages worth of those missions before I go do them all at once. Massive reward for very little effort when you do a ton at a time like that.

Do you have to travel around to several stations to do this? Also do you include pirate stations as mission sources?

pirate stations dont give such missions ... they give kill pirate, kill ship, kill freighter, transfer items.

and since each station have only 5 missions at a time, we all run around other stations and stuck those missions.

Hunt pirate missions are sort of universal too. You can stack them up at different stations and complete them all in one encounter. Harder difficulty of that one provides more waves, the hardest one you have taking priority for how many will spawn. Every system you have the quest in can spawn the pirates to be hunted.

1 grab all the pirate missions from different systems
2 undock from a station with one of the pirate quests highlighted
3 pilot to the signal
4 kill the pirates
5 return to a station
6 turn in the pirate quests

yes. I, personally, just visit stations as I explore, and pick up the missions but don't bother to 'do' any of those particular ones until I have many pages worth.

Cool, thanx for the reply
