What are you even talking about? NMS was a PC game from the very beginning and available for PS. It was only released for Xbox 2 years later.
What do you mean? NMS was on PC since it was released
I guess if you plan to just focus on space combat (which is pretty weak and would get boring pretty fast) it might be more fun with a controller. About 90% of the game is played on planets so you're giving up a lot if your primary reason to go controller is to dog fight.
One more thing. I think if you have a controller and can use it along with M and KB you might find fine placement of building objects easier. I haven't tried it yet but I'm assuming that to be true.
but there are lots of things you can't bind - like for example I hate having to always swap-scroll through my ships entire weapons loadout.
e.g. photon cannon which you can't ever get rid of, phase beam, infra knife, whatever - you have to just click click click through them. Pretty stupid you can't just a) assign fire groups so that any weapon you dont' want to have on your active scroll list can be excluded (so we can skip the photon weapon if we like) and b) allow simply fast hotkey like 1, 2, 3, or ctrl-1, 2, 3, etc to directly pick a particular ship weapon.
