Online issues (Solved)
Just bought the game and trying to connect with a friend. Neither he or i can get any further than the "joining"-message when you select their lobby. It seems to be a problem on my side, since he can still connect to others. I however can't connect to them either. I'm still in the tutorial, might the problem be caused by me not having finished it yet?

Solution: In my case the problem was simply solved by setting Windows Time in Services to Automatic (i had it on manual before). Now everything works.

Check your anti-virus or firewall and make sure NMS isn't blocked.

Shouldn't be. Last game I started was a coop playthrough and we all made new saves and joined up and we went through the early steps of the game repairing our ships together on the same planet in the same general area. That's honestly when MP works best in this game.

If you hit escape and click on the discoveries tab and back out to the systems list, on the bottom will be a green or red circle letting you know if you are connected to the online services. If it's red then it's likely something about your PC isn't letting the game connect. If it's green, then I dunno, double-check your network settings in the game options for multiplayer settings, and then do the basic "turn it off and on again" steps (reboot PC).

If you are using Windows 7, it is a windows 7 + NMS using a protocol that by default Windows 7 does not support. So partly Win 7 fault, but partly HG because imo Windows 7 is still a large enough base that it was poor choice to use network protocol it lacks by default.

If you aren't using Windows 7 then ignore this completely. But if you are, then google NMS and Windows 7 TLS and you'll find the microsoft knowledge article with instructions how to enable to TLS version needed for online discovery connection to NMS

The online Discover-function is active according to the green light. Don't know if its true since its a bit harder to test, but there is that. But if i go into network-settings i sometimes get the "no online matchmaking service"-message. It seems to just block me out of matchmaking for some reason :(

The way to test if online discovery is truly working is go on board the Anomaly.

If you don't have online discovery working, you will not see the green community weekend mission being offered (on weekends only) - and when you talk to helios and the other guy to his left, they will not reward you with nanites for turning in scan data (helios) and milestones achieved (other guy name forgot)

^^ note - i played almost first 6 months of NMS without online discovery because had Windows 7 and did not know TLS protocol needed was not available without special installation steps.

One day wondered why I never saw these community missions people talked about and eventually googled the Windows 7 + NMS TLS issue.

I went to the link and tried the "easy fix" it offered. Still having problems. Should I do the step by step instructions? They seem a bit daunting for a layman...
Cheers

I'm on Win10 Home and have had the same 'no connection' issue since the crossplay update. The fix about TLS does not work in this win version just for Win7 which I upgraded from. I have tried all sorts of suggestions to fix this but nothing changes. I used to use Comodo suite and decided to completely uninstall it and use Windows firewall and anti-virus instead. Still no difference. Am running MBAM full so stopped that from running, no change.

Have checked all obvious settings in MBAM and M$ firewall all seem to be ok, but guess what? no change. I'm wondering if I need to set up another setting for TLS in particular? I used to meet up with HankyPanky on occasions to have a look round so he knows it used to work for me.

Loosing faith with the game now btw I have submitted a report to zendesk too.

PS have started a post on TenForums https://www.tenforums.com/gaming/163621-multiplay-not-working-nms-after-crossplay-game-update.html too.

Yup same here. Been hanging out in Discord asking for help but nobody seems to have solutions. Its weird how such an important part of the game simply isn't working. Hopefully this is something theyll solve in the next patch

Dont think that a Bitlocker will couse that kind of problem.. But you may check your Windows Defender Firewall :
Right mouse click at the windows symbol and choose Run, there type wf.msc and follow the instruction below.

Did make some Screenshots... but it´s German...should not be a big Problem as the layout should be the same

1. Window after wf.msc
http://prntscr.com/sti1c1 ---> Click on Inbound Rules

2. New rule
http://prntscr.com/sti3ez -----> Click on New Rules

3.Activate Program ----This is important !!!---
http://prntscr.com/sti4gi ----->Click Next

4.Inbound NMS.exe
http://prntscr.com/sti8l0

Path should be there :
C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries

5.Next window
http://prntscr.com/sti9pp

6. Next Window
http://prntscr.com/stiano

7. Finish
http://prntscr.com/stib81

And again the same steps for Outbound Rules !!

Thats my setiings and I have no Problems. And ofc your PC-Clock musst be on Auto synchronize

If nothing helps .. uninstall your Antivir.. just in case thats the troublemaker

Thanks for trying to help but no change, I just have no idea what is blocking it, I have even turned off the router firewall just in case it made a difference, but it didn't. Time I gave up trying I think.
