Find a cave. There is usually something there that has cobalt in it.

And that is the fastest way of getting cobalt. You can also buy small amount and use refiners to multiply cobalt with oxygen...

Vortex Cubes. Each one drops a TetraCobalt you can refine into 150 ionized cobalt and again into 300 cobalt. A lot of planets have Vortex Cubes scattered all around in cave systems in clusters of 3-5, that's like a thousand cobalt per.

i went to a station and just bought it which seemed to work pretty well
right now i have like 100k cobalt thanks for the help though

Sorry. When you said "excluding money" I thought you meant other than simply buying it. Ya for common resources like cobalt and ferrite and such buying it is by far the fastest method, and if you have any sort of resource extraction going the costs are pretty trivial.

oh yeah i get excluding and including mixed up sometimes

fastest way is buying and with further explanation to not just limit yourself to station terminal. any system terminal selling cobalt means high chance the landing NPCs will also sell cobalt - not all but many of them.

means you dont need to leave to find another system - just buy from the first 3 waves of NPCs arriving, that ought to add plenty cobalt on top of 3-4k half stach a terminal usually sells.

Fastest way is the first reply.

Find any cave, harvest all the rocks in the cave.

If you think, "I need some Cobalt right now! What do I do?" That's what you do.

You don't look for Cobalt veins. You don't look for Vortex Cubes with TerraCobalt to refine into Cobalt.

Unless I misunderstood the OP, if you want it fast, you go shoot rocks in any cave.

Or you buy it at a trade depot.

Or look for a planet that says cobalt on it when in space you scan it before landing on it to knowif it has it or not.

I would disagree to some extent. If the planet has votex cubes or relics then I think they can add up very quickly. I never bother with normal cobalt though, I just collect the ionized cobalt for building units.

I guess it all comes down to what the OP means.

Does OP mean, where can I get some Cobalt right quick?

Or does OP mean, what's the fastest way to amass a king's ransom of Cobalt?

I assumed the former, but I admit I could be wrong.

Hard telling... I like the relics because you just pick them up, put the tetracobalt in the refiner and in a couple seconds you have ionized cobalt. 5 relics = 750 ionized cobalt. If you have a medium refiner and some oxygen it compounds in a hurry.

I've played about 5000 hours in game and never needed much cobalt for anything.

First, enter a cave. If you are on a planet that has "subterranean relics", ie. vortex cubes, then I would gather those first and refine the tetracobalt to ionized cobalt to cobalt. That is super fast. And they are only in caves, not all caves, but some caves. Slower, but equally as surely, you can mine the stalactites and stalagmites in the cave, as those are mostly cobalt, (some may be other rare minerals, but they are rare, cobalt is common).
