Multi-hundred hour game with each ship I have being very unique to me and my travels. I had to think about it for a bit - then decided no, I won't give up any of them.
So I took the option to abandon the mission.
I'd just like to add - they ought to have set the mission up so finding a ship, tagging the ship would suffice. Clearly they did not anticipate people having ships they won't give up.
I'm thinking there will be another means of getting the same reward; I'll just try some other mission being offered.
That said, I don't think having one of 12 possible ship slots spare is a big ask. And as you found out, you can abandon the mission.
Stupidly, strangely, even weirdly, one can form attachments to the most ephemeral things in life. Over seven hundred hours of game play and I really don't want to rid myself of any of those 12 as they've been around for a very long time.
Ultimately, my choice will be to forgo all of this at least for now. I wonder... if the missions are like the quick silver stuff, perhaps you can gain them in all saves after obtaining them in one.
The salvage ship isn't there for me. Marker, yes. Ship, no. Tried resetting my session and all that. It's just bugged apparently.
That happened me. Just scrap any ship you have and 'return to the mission giver' will trigger, allowing you to complete the mission without scrapping the ship that is marked but not there.
Same thing with the staff.
Sure you lose a bit of resources if it was upgraded but ultimately it's not that bad.
A solution could be find someone willing to scrap a ship for you and send you the items... not ideal I know but still a possibile solution...
